Hi there. I thought I had this under control using mydailyplate.com and all the other resources I've tapped into over the year. HOwever, I came across this today and was wondering if this is true.
------
BMR [kcal]

Body Weight [lb] x 15 + (moderate activity [mins/day] x 3.5)

Since you wish to lose weight, your target = BMR - 500 kcal
-------

According to this, my BMR is (185 x 15) + (30 x 3.5) = 2880.

Which means if I want to lose weight, I should subtract 500 calories a day, and be eating 2380 calories.

So my question is- considering I've been aiming for 1400-1600 a day, have I been starving myself and could this be why the scale won't go down?

When I was on Sparkpeople, I should have been eating 1200-1440 a day, and well, I never lost a pound using that plan. I decided to increase it a bit. Should I start to aim for a minimum of 1880 (to lose 2 lbs a week). What are your thoughts on this?

My 30 minutes I put in of activity is an average. Some days it's more, some days it's a little less.

I'm a 28 y/o woman, weigh 185 (ugh), 5'5. And yes, would say I'm moderately active.

I get 1633.65 for your BMR at

That is the minimum amount of calories that you should be consuming.

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR); the number of calories you'd burn if you stayed in bed all day.

Of course your daily activities/exercise will cause you to burn more calories throughout the day

I'd say that based on that 1800 calories might be a good range to try out for a while and see what happens

2880 kcal as BMR? o.o; this just doesnt sound right. The website's BMR calculator is probably closer to the correct value..

BMR that takes fat percentage into account

Does anyone know of a BMR calculator that takes fat percentage into account? Since there is such a large difference between the calories burned by pounds of fat vs pounds of lean muscle, sticking to my BMR usually leaves me at the same weight.
