Bike Question

I don't so much consider myself a cyclist, but a fitness enthusiast who likes to cycle. In other words I don't care so much about my actual performance, I just care about keeping my heart rate up and getting good exercise. My wife and I bought comfort bikes for this reason (Trek Navigator 2.0 and Navigator 2.0 WSD), no sore butts or aching backs even when we first started.

....I still can't help but wonder though....How much faster would I go on a road bike? We often go on 30 mile trips as a family. If I'm just with my wife, we average 15-16 mph. If I'm pulling my 2 kids in the bike trailer (about 100 lbs all together) I go maybe 12-13 mph.

Anyone care to venture a guess what speed we could go on decent road bikes?

get a tandem and you could probably blaze along at 25 or so...

If you can average 15-16 mph on a comfort bike, I would expect you would be able to easily maintain and 18-20 mph on a real road bike.

That's cool, I was just curious. Against my better judgment, sometimes my competitive nature kicks in and I don't want anyone to pass me. LOL then I remember I'm not on a fast bike:yelrotflmao:

hahahaha,,, I hate it when people pass me too. even if I have my kids with me,, it's like,, oklet's pick it up a bit...

hahahahahaa

Sometimes when I see someone gaining on me, I'll speed up
