Sport Best way to get brown rice if you work in an office?

Sport Fitness
Hi,

I work in an office and all we have access to is a microwave and boiling water from a boiler on the wall (people use it for tea and coffee).

What is the best brown rice I can get in the UK that will be easy enough to prepare in work?? I see microwave ones which are like boil in the bag, is the brown rice good for you that comes this way?

Also the only ones I have seen are like 400g, too much imo for one meal for somebody trying to build muscle as surely theres too many carbs etc for ONE meal??

Also what is white rice like compared to brown rice? I know white pasta and white bread are both no-no's, but what about white rice? Does it follow the trend of being bad for you? lol. I.E not slow releasing carbs.

Thanks for any help!

1. Yes, the boil in bags are fine. This is what I use.

2. You need to determine what your calorie requirement is for bulking and see if that rice plays into that daily requirement.

3. White rice has a higher GI than brown so brown woul;d be optimal to prevent a higher insulin spike but white can be substituted from time to time.

microwave

Why not just make it at home and bring it to work and nuke it? That's what I do and it tastes just fine.

I agree with LV that the brown rice is the way to go also. It's much better for you than white.

My maintenance is circa 2500 calories, so I was thinking of 2800 calories for a bulk? A lot of people say add 500 calories, but I would have thought adding 300 calories would do since I will be reducing the amount of cardio I am doing, where as before I used to do cardio 5-6 times a week for approx 20-30 minutes HIIT each time. When doing this I cut my BF% quite quickly but didn't gain much weight or get very much bigger, just mostly cut down fat.

But I was eating more with the intent of cutting, and obviously had a lot of cardio in there. I have been out the gym for 2.5 months because I really messed up. But I want to approach it by bulking to try and put on size as I have gotten over the worry of putting on some extra fat, as I think the extra fat will be less than I think.

I have a rubbish chest visually so I am hoping a bulk can give it a good shape and some size with some big eating and heavy lifting, even if it means putting on some fat around the abdominal area.

^^ i agree, just precook the rice at home, and microwave it at work
you can even make enough rice for a week and it still tastes fine as long as you keep it sealed
