What are the best fruits to be eating? are there any that should be avoided?

I'm a big fan of fruit as a snack, and I like a lot of variety in my selection, but I'm curious if there are any which I should avoid or limit in my diet?

Fruit and vegetables provide age-protective antioxidants, during the metabolic process fruit and veg produce bicarbonate an alkaline compound that helps protect the bones.

Well I'm actually wondering the same thing, but I know bananas have a lot of sugars in them so don't eat a bunch in one day, haha! I love fruit, too.

eh, bananas have natural sugar though, not to be confused with the processed version we eat. and they are full of potassium too! Although, i'm not encouraging you to "eat a bunch" a variety is the key, other fruits offer various nutrients. Apples have fiber in the peel.

All fruit is good and there's none that should be avoided (unless you're allergic, of course).

Obviously you need to watch your caloric intake - fruit has more calories than veggies and so it's easy to eat too much fruit. But when you're talking about REAL food like fruit and veg, there's nothing that you should "avoid".

That said, fruits with darker colors have been shown to have more antioxidant qualities: blueberries, cranberries, and strawberries all rank high up there in vitamins and antioxidants. Purple grapes have more antioxidants than green grapes, but either are good. Look for vibrant colors in your foods (fruits and veggies both) to get the most nutrients.

Kara, I heard about the vibrant colors thing and always thought it was kind of silly, but you sound like you know what you're talking about! I guess I'm going shipping then :)

And I know the sugars in bananas are good for you.

I know ... it does sound kinda silly, but it actually works pretty well as a guideline. There are obvious exceptions - like cauliflower, which is a great healthy veggie - but as a general guideline, the more vibrant the colors, the higher the nutrient value. Like the purple vs. green grapes thing. :)

Rich berries

We should all try berries..five of the best are...

1.Raspberries....contain a high amount of ellagic acid which is an antioxidant to help prevent cancer these are fat free and contain loads of fibre

2.Blackberries...these berries contain salicylate which is a natural pain reliever, which may lower the risk of heart disease.

3.Blueberries...the berries can reduce risk of uninary infections they help flush out bacteria from the bladder.

4.Goosberries....This fruit is better than an orange it has more vitamin C.the fruit helps boost the immune system and helps build collagen for skin firming.

5.Strawberries...these are rich in antioxidants and promote eye health.

They also taste great mixed with yogurt or on their own...
