Best food for breakfast, full of fibre and protein? Easy and quick?

I'm on a diet and for breakfast I want something that is satisfying and will fill me up but also something that is full of fibre so I know that every morning I've eaten fibre to ensure I will pass stool.

Porridge. Filling, has soluble fibre, decent source of protein, not terribly high calories. Get a large microwave safe container, put the porridge in (a serve is 40g), cover with 300ml of milk or water, microwave for 4 minutes in a 700w microwave, 3.5 minutes in an 800w microwave, or 2.5 minutes in a 900w microwave. (The first two times are instructions on my box of Quaker oats- not the cheapest porridge, but still cheap compared to other cereals- the final time is what I actually do every morning in my microwave). For simpler (but more expensive), you can get Oat so Simple or something like that. For more fibre, have a piece of fruit with it.

(It's a bit of a pain to clean up, but even if you don't have a dishwasher- I don't- bung it in the sink with water to soak it up and deal with it when you get back from work or where ever)

I agree with the oatmeal for breakfast! Also, to add protein, either add an egg or two with it before cooking, or add egg whites. It may sound gross, but I love it. I add stevia and cinnamon and tell myself it is "healthy" french toast, haha.
OR you can add protein powder and fruit to your oatmeal which is delicious and filling!

I eat double fiber bread/toast every morning (along with other things, but I eat incredibly strange breakfasts). At 50 calories a slice and 5 grams of fiber, it is a great source of fiber!

I find it asolutely amazing that people suggest oatmeal for breakfast. I find it leaves me hungry after eating it, and after about an hour, I'm starving and in search of something else to eat. Also, I find it rather high in calories (for the amount I would have to eat to feel 'full' for any length of time).

I'm honestly starting to wonder if something about my metabolism doesn't work like everybody else's....stuff that everybody else says is 'filling' seems to have the opposite effect on me. I could eat eggs until they come out of my ears and don't feel full for example, but a sandwich (with proper rye bread or something similar, not white bread) will keep me going for hours....weird.

Wow, that is weird. Porridge keeps me going for about three hours (and I tend to need to eat because my blood sugar drops, not because I'm hungry- based on hunger I'd get by much longer).

I agree with you on the rye bread though. Two open sandwiches of that with cottage cheese, tomato, and spices- another thing that will get me through for hours.

I'm seriously starting to question how my body works....*lol*...I'm gonna mention it to my GP and see what she thinks. And maybe have a snoop around the internet as well.

I know that I keep having weird reactions to medicines - for example, stuff that is supposed to calm me down makes me hyper, and caffeeine sends me to sleep, anti-depressants made me more depressed - maybe it's something like that with certain foods as well?

I knew I'm not quite right in the head, but does my body really have to follow suit?? lol

San the you here and the you in the parallel universe must have switched places at some point. Quickly switch back or all is lost!!!

My typical breakfast is 2 packs of regular instant oatmeal with 1% milk to which I add natural peanut butter, blueberries and a scoop of whey protein powder. I will add two hard boiled eggs after that if I was really hungry when I got up.

Cereal? Skim milk is really filling and good for you.
Apples. Fruit Salad. Bananas. Low fat raisin bran muffins.

I'm on the oatmeal train too. Idunno about brands, you americans.... just buy a big pack of cut rolled oats and use the wonderful formula 1 measure oat, 2 measures water. Add salt, sugar or whatever you feel like make it taste more winsome.

I use a pot to make it so i just throw it all in there and cook it, takes around 2 minutes.

For 100 grams of rolled oats, you get 340 calories, around 12-15 grams of soluble fiber and a fair amount of protein, and I promise you, 100 grams of oats will fill you the fuck up :)

I did oatmeal for a bit, but I think it must have had extra sugar in it, because I was already hungry mere hours later.

Lately I just grab a fiber breakfast bar on my way out the door, (5g fiber iirc) and have that with my coffee. That usually keeps me going until lunch time.

Good luck!
