Benefits of a Sauna

The gym I attend has a sauna that is never in use. It's a smaller gym. I've read a bit online of the benefits of using the sauna, but was wondering if anyone here uses it themselves, and for what reason? I'm not looking to lose weight, just more for relaxation and detox.

I typically go to the gym to do light weight training and heavy cardio (bike 10 miles, run 5)... When would be the best time to use the sauna?

Thanks!

It will clean your pores. Make sure you take a shower afterwards. It's great for the skin.

I usually do 5 minutes of cardio and 30 lifting, then sauna back and forth with swimming laps and dipping in the spa.. great for the skin to go in hot/cold so I was told. Also it is nice and relaxing after working out, although sometimes i go in for a few minutes beforehand to warm up my body. or at least in my head

I use it after workouts as "a heat treat". If no one else is about I do some light stretches as the heat is very soothing to the muscles. For me, it's a therapeutic quiet time before I shower and leave the gym for the hassles of the world.

Agree with other posters - sweat out toxins, good for skin.
