Being a good influence

Lately at work I've noticed that a lot of my friends/co-workers are starting to eat/snack healthier. They always see me eating this healthy stuff, while they're downing a a chocolate muffin (or more often, eating nothing and saying 'I'm starving!'). When asked, I sometimes go on about the benefits(trying hard not to be preachy) of oatmeal, regular exercise, etc.... And then sure enough a few days later I'll see one of them with a little plastic container of nuts and dried fruit or something. Anyway, I feel like not only have I helped myself, but I've also been a good influence on another, and that can only be good.

Wow, that's pretty neat. So often, you hear about people struggling to make good decisions while all those around them eat all sorts of unhealthy stuff.

My dh eats healthy, and is surrounded by stuff the reps from different companies (basically buttering them up to keep their contracts) bring in pastries, kolaches, big meals, you name it all the time. All the guys he works with see him eating healthy - say stuff about needing to get back in shape too - then keep eating all the goodies.

You should feel very proud that you have been able to influence them in some way. (Now if you want to be really mean - bring cakes and stuff for them, so they'll get fatter and you'll look even better muuaahahaha)

Is it just me, or is it damn hard to have any sort of impact on your friends? Any time I try to critique someone's routine or diet, be it my brother, my good friends, etc. they just think I'm too "by the book", even if I do have sources to back me up and stuff. I've kinda just given up and gone my own way with fitness, maybe my friends are just really stubborn. Hell, try getting one of them to even look at an article. Is it just me in this situation, or do y'all have friends like this?

It's all subjective, some people just have too big of egoes to change or admit they don't know what they're doing. I myself don't have many friends that have a drive for fitness and stuff...I hardly ever talk to them about it.

Thing is all of my friends have a drive for fitness, but maybe it is the egoes or cuz I'm struggling a bit myself, but I try to stay away from conversation about it even though we go to the gym together pretty much every time. Haha, it kinda pisses me off when they get the results though :)

I should actually say that there are two sides to the story. I wrote a post a while back complaining that most of my friends thought I was too extreme concerning diet. That's still true to an extent. I guess since that post I've also paid attention to some positives that are happening around me as well. I wouldn't say many of my friends/acquaintances are eating 'clean' or anything, but I have seen many of them improving their diet to some extent. If I've played any part in that, I feel good about it. There are a number of others who keep saying to me that they are going to join the gym and don't, but who knows, maybe in a year or five, when the conditions are right for them, they will.
