Beginning the Optifast journey!

My name is Kelly and I will turn 50 this week. I have struggled with my weight since having my children. I also suffer from depression and anxiety which doesn't help my eating habits or motivation. I've tried all the fad diets,yo yo dieting. Nothing has worked. Don't get me wrong the weight came off but then I put it right back on. I have 3 grandchildren that are all very young and I would like to be around to see them grow up and to be able to do things with them. I have looked into Optifast and I feel it's my best choice because of the convenience. I currently weigh 240 and hope to lose close to 100 pounds. I weighed 150 as a senior in high school. My biggest fear is when I go back to incorporating real food in my diet that I will become a failure and regain any weight I lost. I go for the Optifast orientation tomorrow at noon. I'm scared and excited at the same time.

Diet companies are good at making their supplements sound like a solution, however don't be fooled, they do not help you learn to eat in a sustainable way or allow you to keep the fat off. Great marketing but not so great products unfortunately.

If you are going to use some meal replacement shakes you will also need to start to learn about controlling the quality and quantity of food you eat to avoid the inevitable regaining of weight you would have if you simply return to your old diet afterwards.

Thank you so much for your advice. Anything you have to offer as far as words of wisdom would be appreciated

Hi kelly, I did opti fast for over a year straight, did not cheat and i will say that it does work... I lost over 200 lbs. I was 450 lbs when I started. I felt great, like a million bucks. But once I had to start feeding again I was terrified. I took it really slow but after a few months eating started becoming the same old habits. Needless to say the weight came back, not all of it but you know what I am saying. It is a great weight loss plan but success relies on learning to eat to live not live to eat... I of all people know the struggle is real, but anything can be over come .it just depends on how bad you want it. A support system is great but it can still be done without one. And happy birthday BTW... i will be 51 next week. Yikes

Thanks Craig for your support! I'm excited to start losing weight and to start feeling better. That's exactly what I fear the most is starting to eat real food again. I need to start finding recipes that are healthy and easy to cook. I'm ready to re learn healthy eating habits and hopefully be a success. Happy early Birthday!
