Beginning Runner Needs Advice!

Hi everyone! Today, I ran for the first time in a very very very long time. I want to know if I'm doing the right thing...

I want to learn to love running. I enjoy it...that is, until I get exhausted. I feel like if I raised my stamina, I would be alot better at it. I'd like to lose some weight as well. I'm not overweight, but I'd like to slim down a little. Here's some information about me:

Age: 16
Height: 5'5
Weight: about 128? (haven't weighed in a while...will fix later)

So here's how my run went:

I set myself a time frame of 30 minutes, and I ran as much of it as I could. At first, I ran for about 5/6 minutes, and then I had to start walking. Every now and then, I felt rested, so I ran a block. Of course, this tired me out really fast. I forced myself to run the last two blocks of my run (it hurt alot!) During the whole 30 minutes, I was moving, either walking or running. I hear this is a good way to start out.

I'm sorry if my post isn't making too much sense, it's late...But, could you tell me if I'm doing it right? I'd really love to build my stamina so that I could be one of those tiny girls who loves to run...You know what I mean!

Thanks!

You're on the right track - there's no real secret to it, it's just time on the pavement. I started running a few months ago, and at first was performing much like you. Given a couple of weeks, I was jogging for a good 20 minutes, and before I knew it, I was doing 30mins up hills. Just keep on it, you'll do fine

Yer I agree, good start! Start small and slowly build up, don't try and increase your milage/speed too quickly though otherwise you may quickly find yourself injured!
Good luck and take care

Awesome :)

I too started out like that. After a few weeks I excelled quite alot and got my stamina up. All you have to do is keep at it and you'll increase in your distance. Best of luck. :)
