Hi,

I am 25 yrs old, female and weigh 152 lbs. With all the information on the internet regarding weight loss, it's very confusing even if you have interest and motivation and dedication to lose weight. Is it ok to start with walking (maybe add some uphill walking on the treadmill) 5 times a week? Also, I like yoga and have been doing it for 2 months, 3 days a week.

Should I add weight training now or walk for a few weeks and then think about it? I do have a lot of motivation and dedication, just don't know where to start or how to proceed. I read some of the threads in this forum, and hope somebody out there can give me some good advice. Please help!!!

Thanks,
viki

Well losing weight is just as much diet as it is excercise. And for the weight training I would recommend it 3 days per week, and cardio 3 times per week.

I recommend for a diet 25% fat, 30-40% protein, 30-40% carbs or somewhere close to those numbers.

And for the cardio, I would try to push it a little harder and go at a good jog for 30 minutes, or do HIIT which is basically slow jog for 30 seconds then just about sprint for 30 seconds then repeat the process until you hit like 20 minutes. Its a very intense workout, but it burns more fat than like 45 minutes of jogging.

And for carbs try to cut the sugars out, eat stuff like brown rice, oatmeal, and stuff that hasn't been refined too much.

For fats try to avoid the saturated fats as much as possible

And protein is very important in your diet, eat lean chicken, lean meats, whey protein shakes, and all that good stuff.

Losing weight is somewhat of a long term commitment or even life change.

I recommend "body for life" it's a book that sets out a good diet plan, workout plan and it motivates you to work hard to get to what you want. It has you exercising 6 days per week, and I think it takes a good amount of discipline to follow the 12 week cycle in the book.

Another one I just got my girlfriend is called "body sculpting bible for women" its a thick book, costs I think 13 bucks, has everything you want to know about weight loss and sculpting your body.

And make sure you drink plenty of water, it aids in fat loss and it costs nothing!

Good luck to you if you have any questions then ask away and someone will answer it here.

Have a nice day and good luck to ya.

definetly add weight training. Weight training will onlypump up your metabolism and and therefore burning more fat. Also it will help you see results after you start to lose fat because there will actually be something there afterwards that will help show you toned body. I would just have to say don't go over board with the cardio because after you lose the fat, you'll want to train more on weight training to get a more toned look. I think yoga is good too because it can help you destressed because stress can add on the pounds. So good luck on your weight loss.
