Hello all. I'm a 5'9 230 lb Male, 20, and since December of 2006, I cannot break below 230 lb. This past summer I went up to 243, and actually lost it very quickly, but then as soon as I got back to 230, My weight wouldn't budge. I've tried everything that's recommended to breaking through a plateau, and none of it works. At 1800 Calories a day and around 45 minutes of vigorous Cardio 5 times per week, how is it possible to NOT be losing weight? (I've been doing this for the past three weeks)

I'm completely distraught over this and have been for a very long time, It's driven me completely insane, and I can't stop thinking about it. I'm on a very balanced diet with about 30g fiber per day, and I even take Alli, the weight loss supplement that blocks 40% of the fat you eat from being absorbed with or without it, the scale won't budge.

Plateaus are all too common.

The best advice I heard about them was that weight loss is not linear, it's more like a staircase. Lose-plateau-lose-plateau-lose.

Plateaus should even be expected (even if they are frustrating). You said that you have been doing the 5x/week cardio and 1800 calories per day diet.

If you stick to this, you will absolutely lose weight. No matter how slow of a metabolism you have, your current plan will elicit weight loss.

You are on the right track my friend. Keep it going!

x2 1800 cals is a deficit for your weight, the energy has to be made up from somewhere namely your fat stores, its impossible not to lose weight in a caloric deficit over the long term.

I agree that you need to eat a little more. More importantly what are you eating? your body adapts to exercise so you need to change it up. Throw in some basic light weight training and add interval training to your cardio.

Maybe if you werent a spammer then you would lose weight.

Kind of a weird spam considering the post says it doesn't work.
