Sport beef jerky

So what's the low down on beef jerkey? I ate some on the way home form the gym last night cause i forgot my whey powder. I figured for a post workout it would be alright even tho it wont be as quickly absorbed as whey.

But as an over all food/to eat in a diet is it a good choice?

Thanks!

Aside from the salt content i consider it a generally good snacking item. High protein, low in fats, and yummy. :) Again there is the salt content to consider (hard to escape with jerky) but most everything else I eat is low in sodium.

In fact, I am going to have a piece right now. YUM

Why some think it's bad: It's unhealthy meat that's loaded with salt and preservatives. First it isn't unhealthy meat. The base meat source, can be okay. Its the processing the beef into jerky, that can be the problem. Second, most commercial beef jerky are loaded with a ton of salt (such as MSG and sodium nitrate), and additional preservatives (which can be deemed as unhealthy), However, there are some that are very good.

If you were to buy one, and these are concerns, than buy one where the ingredients are more desirable. Remember, that not all things that are natural are good for you. Additionally, even mixing and matching so-called natural items with another natural item can be unhealthy. Basically all things are naturally based, its the mixing and matching to form something else that creates some complications and health concerns/issues.

Try this one:

Gourmet Natural Beef Jerky (available at americangrassfedbeef.com).

It has no preservatives and is made from lean, grass-fed beef.

I make my own jerky out of chicken breast, all i put it in is salt, sugar, soy sauce, ginger and water to marinaide. I keep it in my fridegerator and use it as a late night snack, especially if i already ate all of my grilled chicken breast. I try not to eat more than 2oz at a time. I dont eat much salt in my diet, so its not too bad. But i will feel the salt if i go on a jerky binge.
