Hi all. I'm hungry and thought that I might cook up some baked beans to eat. Is this an ok snack/meal or not?

Do you have a diet approach in place or are you just taking it day by day?

They're rich in salt, but who cares...as long as you eat them in moderation.

They're good antioxidants, low in fat, high in protein and fiber, and provide important vitamins and minerals like iron, folic acid, zinc and potassium.

So yes, it's okay for you to eat them. :) What do you plan on eating them with?

LOL I hadn't planned on eating anything with them. LOL (Is that bad?)

LV - although I am always trying to find better ways of eating, I am trying to take it day by day right now. I have a few good ideas kicking around, but as usual, trying to shed a few pounds.

I suggest you figure out what your calorie requirement is for fat loss and then divise a diet with a macronutrient breakdown to promote your goal. Too often I see people live the day by day diet and they usually end up failing due to frustration of not knowing what or how much to eat. Preparing your meals in advance will take away the frustration and desire to cheat.

baked beans may have a lot of added sugar (I'm thinking of like, Bush's baked beans as an example), so check on that if you're not making them from scratch.

in general beans (kidney, red, navy, black, lima, etc) are good carb sources, contain a pretty good amount of fiber per serving, and quite a bit of protein. Now, the protein isn't a complete protein, but pairing with a grain like rice, will give you all 9 amino acids required for to meet 'complete protein' status.
but you'd still be better off tossing some chicken or lean steak into your rice n' beans, and some veggies as well.

yeah, you definitely want a plan. I don't plan my m eals out more than a day in advance...but I also eat the same kinds of things every day (except when I plan a cheat meal) so it makes it easy cuz I know I'm never too far off from my desired daily macro/calorie intake...close enough that I can correct it in one meal with an extra ounce of meat, half cup of veggies, or a tablespoon of healthy fats.

but it takes a while to get to that point where you mentally 'know' where you're at.

Thankfully sparrow gave me a good idea as to what I should eat and when. I intend to keep that in mind when I make my shopping list this week!

Wendy, here is a good list of foods that I shared with my forum. You can create a solid diet structure from this list....

Thanks LV! U ROCK! I will be taking this with me to the store on Friday! :D

pour of the extra sauce ,or you could drain the beans and add them to a tin of natural tomatoes, its a healthier more natural sauce.

Definitely something to think about for next time. :D
