Sport Battling for my taste buds: Flax Oil.

Sport Fitness
Howdy everyone,

I've been using flax oil for awhile now during my cutting phase. It's clearly killing my mouth every time I consume a tablespoon.

Now, I know the benefits of the Omega-3s and other components coming directly from the flax seeds... and that's all fine and dandy. But, I need a replacement that tastes substantially better.

I wasn't sure from an actual caloric breakdown point, if different "healthy nuts" (i.e. almonds, etc.) would be a good replacement for such a pure mono/polyunsaturated fat source.

ISO different opinions.

I also realize that foods like avacados, real cheeses, almonds, and other nuts have been deemed healthy fats. However, I'm addresssing this issue as a 'fat' purist. Meaning, I'm looking to see if there are any other alternatives to this nasty oil, while still containing mono/polyunsaturated fat only. (Protein can be in there, but I'm looking for a low-low-carb replacement [preferably none at all])

I don't have much (any) info on oils, but take omega 3 oil capsuals. I have no idea on the sat. or trans fats if there are any. Why not look along the nutrient levels of capsuals and see if it has any info? see if you can find anything better?

Other then flax seed oils with regards to omega 3+6 oils I'd say look through fish oils and getting the oils through foods rather then actual pure oils and if you must eat pure oils maybe try drizzling them over salad or fish- don't cook or heat it or you risk changing its molecular structure, but dropping a little onto warmed tuna steak for example I'd have thought would be fine? (Just not hot tuna steak!!)

i'd ditch the flax seed oil (alpha linoleic acid, which has a poor conversion rate to DEA and EPA omega fatty acids), and go for fish oil capsules, which are EPA/DEA containing, so there's no conversion.

More bang for your buck...a few fish oil caps = several teaspoons of what you'll get from flaxseed oil.

Thanks for the input! I think I will switch to the pills. :) I'm just hoping their cheap enough.

Be careful what you get- do some reseach as not all fish oils were created equal! Some brands make better quality pills than others.
