Sport BAKED BEANS: Health food or Scam in a can?

Sport Fitness
Hi, are baked beans good for gaining muscle..What are the main benefits of baked beans? Is eating 2 cans a day too much?

Neither. They are mixed between good and bad. The good is high in protein and fiber. The bad is high in sugar.

They're processed - it'd be healthier to make your own. (Or making some other kind of dish with beans in it like chili).

Fresh is always best, but if buying canned beans try pinto beans or black beans. I think that "Bush's Best" make some really good canned beans.

I often shred chicken and mix it with beans. Yummy!

Two cans is an lot of fiber. You may end up spending more time on the pot instead of at the gym. :D

Lentils and split peas are excellent muscle food. Both are very easy to prepare, cheap, and quite tasty. They also happen to have the lowest carb:fibre ratio of the commonly available beans, which is a very good thing. You can make a number of different, very tasty soups that are high in protein and fibrous carbs by simply throwing some kind of lean meat (after browning, of course), either or both types of bean, and whatever vegetables/herbs you like into a pot for an hour or two.
