Bah - I'm over it :/

This is getting a little frustrating. I am now on week 2 of my plateau. First one I really hit since I started this journey, yes sure there are a few random weeks I didn’t lose, but I was to blame, had a bottle of wine to many, or a basket of fries etc.

But these last two weeks I have been about 80% on track with my intake to lose 2-3lbs per week and I had a big drop of 0.2 in the last 2 weeks.

I mean technically I should have gone down maybe 2-3 at least.

I am switching things around a little to see if it will help. I was very repetitive with the meals I would have. Same thing day in a day out. I am staying within the same calorie range, just switching the foods up. I am also trying to switch my cardio workout to a different time during the day, give my body a little change.

I have also been more regular with my weight training, could it be that I have been losing fat but gaining muscles?

This is frustrating… hoping for a -2lbs by next Monday to see if the change worked. Anyone else got good tricks for plateau?

Ok, first of all, 2 weeks isn't a plateau. It's a blip. :)

I think the problem is that you need to adjust your expectations - because 2-3 lbs a week is an unreasonable expectation once you get that close to your goal weight. If you're losing weight at a reasonable and safe rate, you should expect an average of 1% of your bodyweight per week. For you, I gather you're around 150 now (and wanting to get down to 130), you should expect a good rate of loss to be around 1lb to 1.5lbs a week.

about 80% on track with my intake
Again, being so close to your goal and to a healthy weight means that 20% off track can be a much bigger difference than when you were a lot heavier. When you get that much closer to your goal you cannot afford to be 20% off track.

It's simple math. If you're eating, say 1600 calories a day, and you're off by 20%, that means you're actually eating 1900 calories per day. That's 300 calories (approx) that count against your loss ... 11 days of 300 calories extra is almost a pound that you could have lost that you didn't. :)

I have also been more regular with my weight training, could it be that I have been losing fat but gaining muscles?
Unlikely. You don't gain muscle that fast. A woman who is working her butt off and really 100% on target for food and protein will gain an average of 2lbs of muscle per month during the first year of working out. Again that's someone who is working hard to build muscle. If you're eating in a calorie deficit and not pushing hard with the weights, you're not building muscle (although you're probably maintaining muscle, which is good).

I would say you've hit that point in your journey where it gets harder and you're going to have to really crack down and be strict with yourself. That's harder now - holidays are the worst time to have to be really strict. :) But if you want to lose the 1.5 lbs a week or so that is a healthy rate, I think that's what's going to have to happen

Thanks Kara! All makes sense...

You are pretty good at this stuff :)

And if this is blip... I only hope to plateau at 130 :p

hello, yes i think i agree with you about kara!! lifesaver.

um i just came off a 7 wk plateau. nothing. at all.
it took that long of changing up my exercise routine.

i just forgot the scales for a bit, i mean it works different for everyone right??
but in the last 4 days i've finally dropped a kilo and a half under what i'd been sitting at for 7 wks.

and i realised it was all very mental - if i didn't get a loss every wk i'd feel so down.

i just worked on my self discipline, i knew i was doing it right, so thus i knew the results would come.

hope that helps.
