Sport Bagels- Good or bad?

Sport Fitness
Hello everyone,

I have been looking at some WW bagels that my family bought and was looking to get your opinion on them.

Here is some nutritional info.

I had one of these with natty PB and a Tbsp of sugarfree maple syrup for my cheat meal this morning. I am wondering if they are ok for regular consumption or if I should limit them to my once a week cheat meal. The only issue I see is the higher sodium count. Any opinions?

Thanks,

I'd have to see the ingredients. I'd like to know the source of the 5 grams of sugar.

The sodium's a little high for my taste, but could fit in depending on what else you eat

I agree with gooch, also if you ate that you might want to stick with just a half of the bagel because if not thats 300 calories of almost straight up carbs.

I eat that many and more carbs in one sitting, but my metabolism is unusually high.

It just depends on your personal diet

Obviously, they are high carbohydrate, which can be good or bad depending on what your goals are (and for some people may be good in some situations and bad in others).

Bagels in general are rather calorie dense, so if you are rationing calories, you may want to be careful with them. Also, where do the 5g of sugars come from in these particular bagels?

I did a google search and using the company's website pulled up the ingredient list.

yeah my bad, I didn't mean to say that having that many carbs at once is necesarily bad, but it depends on your goals, as well as the time of day in accordance to your training. If you choose the wrong time it won't be a good choice, but it may be beneficial.

Not crazy about the added sugars for an everyday food item. I can't figure out for the life of me why bread manufacturers do this....but you usually have to put up with a little bit of it if you buy bread rather than make it yourself

Yes I saw the sugars in the ingredients and was a bit puzzled by it. Kind of sucks lol. I usually consume a bowl of oatmeal in the morning (which has about 40g of carbs) but I had this instead (60g of carbs)

I am currently bulking if that matters at all. I like to stick to a 50-30-20 split for my calories and I can fit this in but it is the sodium and bit of added sugar that are the downfalls.

I just may have to limit this to a cheat (damnit!) :(

Thanks guys.

I usually assume anything pre-packaged is crap.

I found these fruit and nut bars which are actually excellent (nothing but unsweetened fruit and nuts) but I was resistant at first because it seemed too good to be true LOL

Some added sugar helps the yeast rise the bread. Doesn't have to be a lot -- perhaps 2 tablespoons or 18g total in a one pound loaf of bread. That should be about 2g of sugar for a 57g (1/8 pound) serving.
