Bad habits?

Before I run, I always pop a peice of chewing gum in my mouth for the run. I've been told by some that it's a bad habit that I possibly should consider kicking. I don't really chew like a cow when I'm running, it just sits in the side of my cheek. Is this truly a bad habit? Or should I go right on chewing my gum?

Does it make your mouth dry?

I know you said you donot chew it during running, if it does not force you to breathe through mouth instead of the nose, then I cant see any harm in it.

Do you feel any problems due to it?
Is there any particular reason for you to keep it in mouth during running?

No problems, I was just wondering if it could cause some dehydration problems or something similar to that. I guess I just have a sort of "oral-fixation" when I run. Something psychosomatic like that.

I am no expert, but, I cant see any problems. I cant see why it would cause dehydration. You could carry a bottle of water/ energy drink with you, if you are worried about it.

I just read in Cosmo this month that sugar substitutes (like in gum) are the number one cause of bloating, besides our monthly visitor I'm sure.

I did not know that! :) I'll keep that in mind.
