Sport Baby food...am I gonna regret this idea?

Sport Fitness
So I've started to address a big issue with my work schedule and environment and have started to pack a lot of pre-packaged tuna, salmon, chicken breasts, etc. I also found single-serving, microwaveable brown rice cups. I also throw in some dried apricots and almonds to munch on.

The only thing that is really lacking is veggies and then I got a brainstorm while I was grocery shopping the other day. So I'm considering picking up some of the Gerbers Organic 2nd Foods fruits and vegetables cups.

Anyone with kids out there (got none) tell me how these things taste? I imagine they are kind of bland? Gotta get some veggies somehow and not really sure how nutritionally equivelent it will be.

Thoughts?

:laughing2:

Baby food is for introducing the taste of real food to babies wh recieve their nutrtion from formula or breast milk. It doesn't provide much in the way of nutrients ( in fact, I am guessing almost none). No fiber, HIGHLY processed. Pretty much worthless.

Why not get some of those bags of broccoli slaw, cole slaw prewashed salad greens, cut up apples? Those would be easy to divvy up in Tupperware and nuke at work or eat raw.

I remember in Nutrition Secrets from Men's Health (2006 issue) the cover model would eat baby food. He actually had a recipie he made called "Vein Pooping Tapioca Pudding."

Sad to say I haven't come across this magazine for quite some time.

I was actually reading this so I hope this helps answer your question to some degree.

I also just remembered that the cover model talked about how it would be best to have for Post workout nutrirition.

Vien pooping huh? hahahahahhahahahahah. Love it! Figure athletes eat baby food for precontest diet and I can see where someone would use it for a photo shoot type diet as well where you don't give a damn about nutrition but about looking cut and lean. Long term baby food is not a good idea for substitution.

Yeah that's Greg Avedon I think you're referring to. If I remember correctly the recipe was something like Gerber Hawaiin Delight baby food with soy-lecithin granules.

As far as being highly processed, I was looking specifically at the Organics because they are advertised as being simply pureed vegetables without any added preservatives, starches, or salt.

My problem with taking fresh fruits and veggies in bags is that I transit Customs and Border Patrol on a regular basis and they will at least get confiscated and and most hit me with a large fine. If I am working a purely domestic trip it is not an issue and in fact I had a big thing of spinach with me on my most recent trip.

Again this would just be as a substitute while at work with limited/no access to fresh fruits and veggies.

Hmmm. Well that is a hard call. I just don't think you are going to get much nutrition or satisfaction out of baby food. I guess if you plan on eating some real veg on other occasions it could work but it isn't going to be really delicious or satisfying. Just my opinion but if you are set that baby food is the answer to your prayers, have at it! :D

Your right that was the guy who I was reffering to. Also organic is probably the best way to go.

Have you considered trying V8? Maybe they won't conviscate that.

Yeah, I carry small cans of low-sodium V8...the 5.5oz ones. I love them!
