Australia: the most obese nation

Apparently, the Aussies couldn't stand playing second fiddle to the US in obesity and, with a lot of hard work, have caught and surpassed the US in that dubious distinction!

We Americans can now chant, "We're no longer Number One"

Hahahaha I like where this thread is going :D

I have the vegemite and tim tams here as well and we arent the most obese :D our neighbours however.....

You kiwis must really be enjoying this. Finally your hour of redemption has come. No longer with the unanswerable sheep jokes!

Aussie: Mary had a little lamb..
Kiwi: YOU'RE FAT.
Aussie: Maybe if I got as much "exercise" as you do...
Kiwi: At least I can find the necessary parts.
Aussie: Well played, sir.
Kiwi: And I thank you.

All i can say is that i've been to the US and Australia, and from my observation there are way more fat obese people in the US. But maybe this is because the overweight australians stay indoors, or they are all muscled up :p

But seriously i dont know where they all came from! In my university course there are about 70 of us and i'd say only 1 of them are obese, same with my high school year..

At least this ill provide many job opportunities for myself.

What about shearing? I do believe we have won the trans- tasman many years running. Oh and what about gumboot throwing taihape kicks your ass B.itch :D

You call those sports? haha

How accurate are these obese measures? Because i'd put my life on it not being as bad as 1 in four, that is seriously rediculous.

Its probably one in four is classed with a bmi of above 25 or something stupid.

The thing is that people from places as australia and new zealand are generally bigger than other populations and therefore what we percieve as being solid is what other people think of as obese.

The article, written by an Aussie newspaper, uses BMI > 30 as definition of obese. I'm sure some of those folks are muscular or big-boned but I doubt the average Aussie or Kiwi is more muscular than the average US or UK person to explain away a higher BMI.

Aussies are fat (like Americans).

Im not sure about that, In New Zealand at least. New Zealand is a very multi cultural soceity made up of alot of pacific island people and maori which generally are larger heavier and have more muscle mass than your typical caucasian. A BMI of 30 is no great shakes to these people either.

I think you are right in one way but I think that we have a much different perception of what obese is than you american folk.

very truee
