Athlete..Need Advice

Hello all, I am new to this forum. I am a semi-pro paintball player. Since most people don't understand...i play speedball, not the paintball where your in the woods in camo. The type I play is on a field...about the size of a half a football field. It is face paced and physically demanding. I am a 6'4 240lb guy. I am overweight..but not extrememly fat. I need to get faster and get in better conditiong shape. I also need to get flexible and up my reflexes. I dont want to Bulk up..but i want to get more toned. Our season is starting soon..and i waited to long to get back in the gym. Any one have suggestions on what type of routine i should have.

Sounds like interval training would be great for you (jog, sprint, repeat) about 6h/week ... as for reflex training, look into what football players and hockey players (dryland training) do for training ... they do a lot of reflex work.

Another thing you could do is look up (either in textbooks or on the web) some agility drills...they really work on speed play as well as quick and powerful changes in direction...these will definitely help you on the field.

As for your gym routine, depending on how long it has been since you trained and the experience you have with lifting, you might just want to start with a full-body program, run through that as an anatomical adaptation phase, and then progress from there.

;)
