I am a 69 year old man, 5'9" tall, 180 pounds. Most of my life I weighed between 160 and 170 but after I retired and quit smoking I immediately gained weight and went to 195I dieted and started working out and went down to 180 but I can't lose the extra 20 which is my goal. I eat healthy and try to stay away from processed foods. Lots of raw vegetables and I cut out all salt. I have a weight machine which I use at least four times a week. I can see my weight re distributing and my pants are loose but the gut is still there big time. The weather is starting to warm up so I will be going for walks, cutting the grass, gardening etc. By the way I have been at 180 for about two years. Anyone out there have some advice on how to drop that extra 20 pounds. I even tried Hoodia which was a joke. I actually considered going back to cigarettes but I know that would kill me even though the weight would drop. HELP....

How many calories a day are you taking in? - eating healthy is great but it's still very easy to go over the suggested amount of calories a day... you might want to keep track in a program like

so at age 69 - you're not drinking, not eating chocolate, not smoking, not eating anything salty...

you'll live to 100 but what's the point - except for the smoking part you're taking all the fun out of life -hopefully there's a hot 30 year old in the picture :)

what types of things are you doing with teh weight machine and how long ahve you been using it...

My wife is a professional baker and works out of the house so trust me when you are around cookies, cakes, etc. 24 hours a day you soon lose your craving for sweets. I was never big on sweets anyways. When I retired and cigarettes went to $4.50 a pack I decided I had to quit. That was really hard as I truly enjoyed smoking and still envy the person I see smoking. Alcohol is another story. Another vice.......Everyone said that was why I couldn't lose weight. The doctor said alcohol was the reason for high blood pressure, which, by the way, is only moderately high. I do like red wine on occasion. At any rate I quit alcohol and it didn't make any difference in my weight. No..I do not have a 30 year old waiting in the wings. One woman in my life is plenty. I'm convinced that I am supposed to weigh 180 pounds as I don't lose and I don't gain. As for weight training, I now have big biceps, triceps, and pecs as well as a good firm rear end. All of this with a big round pot belly in the middle.

good firm rearends are always a good thing :)
