Aspartame

I know a lotta supplements have aspartame in them, and I have heard its not very good for your body in the long run...However, the gum I chew has aspartame also, but says less than 2% of it...I chew like 3 pieces a day...you think aspartame is bad enough that I should switch my gum? I mean gum with sugar tho is just gonna mess my teeth up...thanks for any help

Do a little research on it. Its up to you if you want to take the risk. It's pretty hard to avoid, but you may as well get used to it as it will be banned in the next few years.

Its worst in its powder form, so I would suggest giving up any dry foods with it in.

Anyone who would endorse or advocate Aspartame, Is a bloody fool.
And it is not hard to avoid. In estimation i haven't had That crap in my body in well over a year atleast.

Silent,

do remember R.Lewis is in the UK, and has a completely different selection of packaged foods to choose from. I'm not sure he's even seen Splenda/Sucralose yet.
Bloody brits!

I don't think that less than 2% is that bad. Aspartame is found in about 6000 products around the world. Here is a website with FAQ's.

Aspartame is fine in small dosages this has been scientifically proven. People need to stop worrying so much. Anything is bad if you have to much. Too much vitamin A will shut down a persons organs and kill a person.

For a person to get cancer or develop any other ailment from aspartame they would need to literally drink it, eat it, sniff it, inject it, and bathe in it. If your not doing all that your not going to get the quantity for it to even be remotely bad for you.

People need to relax. And as for splenda theirs a lot of sources that claim its really bad for your as well. But yet you don't by into that hype do you?

I have done a little research, which shows that in almsot 30 years, science has discovered no set of symptoms arising from its use, nor any safety problems regarding it. It is not an allergen.

However, people with the genetic disease phenylketonuria (PKU), and pregnant women with hyperphenylalanine (high levels of phenylalanine in blood) have a problem with aspartame because they do not effectively metabolize the amino acid phenylalanine, one of aspartame's components. High levels of this amino acid in body fluids can cause brain damage. That's why in the US, foods containing aspartame must have a warning to those with PKU.

Before anyone has a fit, phenylalanine also occurs in many "natural" foods such as nuts, legumes, dairy products, and many meats. It is also found in high amounts in chocolate, and is produced in the brain when feeling "in love".

MB1, please learn to stop bumping old threads randomly to say absolutely nothing.

Fair enough, I apologise for sounding like a smart ass, but I simply thought it was neccesary to point out that statements like 'aspartame is fine' are not neccesarily correct.

It is fine for anyone who does not have PKU.
