Arm Clicking when weight lifting.

Hi,

I have recently started working out and i am doing a range of excersises. However whenever i am lifting weight with my arms from behind my head or doing chair dips my left elbow clicks. I think the reason for this is because when i was 10 i broke my arm and had to have an operation on it. Im guessing the joint in my elbow is not exactly 100%.

I know it is hard for you guys to answer this as you are not doctors and you do not know the exact condition of my arm but if anyone has had any similar experience or knows if it is save to keep working out it would be a great help.

FYI. When this clicking is happening it is causing me no pain i just dont want to end up injuring myself.

Thanks

As you said, I can't say for sure, since I'm on the other end of the internet. However, I'll give my input.

If the clicking seems to be coming from within the joint (feeling like the bones are clicking) then it's likely not an issue. It's just air moving through the joint. If anything, it could just mean that the joint is a little loose, but you shouldn't injure it unless you stress your end range of motion.

If it feels like a softer tissue, like a muscle or tendon, that may be a better reason to go get checked out. Again, not likely a huge problem, but there may be some flexibility or tissue release that can be worked on.

Thanks for your advice Jrahien.

I think it is the first you described, it does not feel like it is muscle or tendon just more like a bone/joint issue.

I think i will just keep going as i am and if it starts to get worse or start hurting i will contact my doctor.

Again thanks for the advice.
