Cholesterol - water soluble fats. Useful stuff in balance.
2 types low density cholesterol and high density cholesterol, think of them like wax and sand.
Low density will stick to the sides of the arteries and veins which if left uncleared can eventually cause waxy blockages leading to strokes or heart attacks.
High density will come through and blast away the low density putting it back in the blood stream.
There is a lot of talk about good and bad cholesterol, but in truth both can be good if in balance. If you have too much low density and not enough high, the low becomes bad because it causes blockages. if you eat a balance that means these deposits are cleared away you are in no danger, so the low density isn't a bad guy after all.
Like virtually everything else in diet it comes down to balance rather than avoidance. A nice fried breakfast will usually send the low densities up for a while, but if you like a nice dose of oats on a regular basis and fry ups occasionally there is no harm. No magic dietary supplement, new wonder food or drastic changes to life required, just simple balance. Get yer oats, you'll be fine, and guess what there are lots of other foods like them too, and most of them are just as cheap and easily available.
