Are weights a good purchase?

Hi All,

I'm pretty new to fitness, exercise and actually trying to lose weight, I have taken up Pilates as I have not really looked after my body for years before I get to stuck in I wanted to get a bit stronger and feel more able. I hope that I can get some guidance from everyone in the community.

What would be suitable weights be for me at my initial stage?

I think I prefer doing weights to running for instance so I would rather have this sort of thing than get a running machine. Will I be able to achieve weight loss / toning targets by using weights?

Thanks everyone!

Yes! You do need cardio exercise, as it helps endurance, blood02 levels and it will enable you to train harder. Basically if the intensity is right you will loose calories. Calories are burnt with anything that requires energy so keep it intense to burn more. Find a weight where you can just about do 12 reps. Do that 4 times for each exercise. Train muscle groups together. Main point do not over do it. Sick to 12x4 and see how you get on. If you are not blood red and screaming on your last set it's not intense
