Are Supplements Necessary

I recently heard on the Rush Limbaugh show that a new study showed that supplements are not neccessary and a waste. I don't believe that's so. The fact is that we no longer get the neccessary vitamins and minerals that we need from our food sources because they are so over processed that most of the vitmains and mineral we require are lost in that process.

This week on my podcast "A Better Day" I talk about certain supplements and how they effect different organs and other parts of our bodies. You can listen to the show at:

Seems interesting.

Well supplements are not necessary for people with perfect lifestyles. It also depends very much on your goals and the timeframe for goals. The major problem with grouping all supplements like that is it shows the amount Rush and the writers don't know about supplementation.
There are a lot of bogus supplements for sale as we all know. However, the need for people to substitute meals and make up time make supplements a very useful tool.

supplements

Another question to ask is who funded the research Rush spoke about? Sometimes researches are funded by companies with a vested interest that you don't know for sure how bias or un-biased the report is.

I personally don't use any supplements and I don't think it affects a lot my training.

This is just by choice, the supplements by themselves are not the problem and one can see them as a convenient way to get what traditional food can also give you. but the way they are sold is a problem... loads of illusion. The marketing speech is not very fair to my opinion...

I also agree that natural food is all you need.

The issue is severalfold, though.

1. Do you eat what you need to?
2. Do you stay away from what you should?
3. Do you want to be super big and muscly?
4. How much benefit to you is the food you eat?

Realtively speaking, you should be able to eat normal, natrual whole foods and NOT EVER need anything else. -However in today's stressful metropolized environment, it is a good idea to have a multicitamin as well.

With multis, you have to be sure they totally break down in water in 10 minutes or less, though. -Or else when you take them, they will flush out the other end. Vitamins with any type of silicate (SAND) typically do NOT break down. Try the test yourself before you accept one for usage.

As for the ideas in favor of supplements for bone loss, etc, it should be noted that training with heavy weight REVERSES bone loss and joint weakening. If you are weight training (not just cardio or machines), taking a good multi, and eating naural whole foods, you will be fine.
