I been eating one everyday before my morning workout and I was wondering if they're ok. I've been eating 1200-1300 cals a day of really lean healthy whole foods (besides the protein bars everything is fresh fruit veggies lean meat and chicken) worked out 2 hours a day 4 days a week the past 2 weeks and only lost 6lbs. The weight I am I should have lost more I feel. What could I be doing wrong???

this is an example of what my diet has been:

breakfast:
whole grain rolled oats oatmeal
1 banana = total 270 cals
black coffee

mid am snack/pre workout snack
pure protein bar = total 180 cals 20 g protein

lunch:
large green salad with lettuce tomato cucumber onions with 1 slice light toast, 3 slices fat free turkey breast, 1 tbs light Italian dressing, 1 apple, = total 220 cals

snack:
1/2 cup light & fit yogurt
1 cup strawberry's = total 105 cals

dinner:
5 oz grilled boneless skinless chicken breast,, 1 cup steamed broccoli, 1/2 cup corn = total 240cals

dessert:
1/2 cup sugar free jello, 2 tbs fat free w.c= total 25 cals

& everyday I was doing 45 mins aerobics in the morning and 55 mins of taebo in the evening and drinking 70 oz of water everyday no other drink and nothing unhealthy

Im really heavy like 240 5'6 and only 23:(

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IM DOING WRONG!!! I NEED HELP DESPERATELY! IAM SO SICK OF BEING FAT AND SAD :(

First off - wow, thats am impressive workout regiment to follow. Second, your overall food looks remarkably healthy and balanced.

3 pounds a week is a really good rate of weight loss. If you lose anymore, youre not giving your body the time it needs to adjust, and its oging to yoyo back.

Personally, im not a fan of any synthetic protein products while trying to CUT weight. You can get all the protein your body needs in regular food, and save yourself the calories. Considering im seeing chicken breast for dinner, and turkey/yogurt for lunch, I can assume you are getting quite a bit of protein already.

The bottomline is to keep on doing what you are doing. These 2 week results are freaking awesome - but its going to take time to work all that extra weight off. Thats the harsh long and short of it.

@Andy;776430

thank you :) Yes I figured after a hearing a few people say its not good for weight loss rather building muscle I decided to cut these out my diet.

Thanks for answering

What Andy said. Apart from the protein bar, that looks like a really good diet.

Also, are you getting enough calories? Different people have different requirements, so you may need more even in order to lose weight (the bigger you are, the more you need). If you go into too much of a deficit as compared to your body's baseline needs you risk slowing your metabolism and hampering your weight loss efforts. I highly recommend calculating your calorie allowance by using a BMR calculator (readily found on search engines), working out your maintenance calories, and reducing by between 500 and 1000 (but no more than 1000). You need to have the energy to do all that exercise and everything else you want to do with your life, and 1200-1300 is at the very low end of what people need. (And are you physically satisfied on that diet? If you're hungry a lot it might be worthwhile experimenting with the kinds of foods you eat to make more filling choices, which will give you more motivation to stick with it)

I agree with Amy. For your current weight 1200-1300 looks too severe.

Are you counting the protein bars in your calorie count?

Also you are building muscle if you are working out so much but THAT IS NOT A BAD THING.

Firstly because of your 2 hour exercise program, you need plenty of protein to repair the tissue damage you've done in your workout.

You also should build more muscle but believe me unless you are lifting heavy weights or doing a lot of other resistance training (like bike riding on a high gear) AND eating lots of protein, you won't get big muscles.

But also you shouldn't really be eating pure protein bars. Its better to combine protein with carbohydrate for the extra calories you need due to your workouts.

I am not going to go into the ins and outs of this. I have said it all elsewhere around this forum and i've also picked up some of it from my reading of other reputable websites. If you want to know which ones, scan through my diary in the link below.

Bottom line, eat more food, don't stop the exercise, be a little bit more patient. The weight will come off.

A further questions about your oatmeal. I am always confused by what people mean when they say this. I know oatmeal is what we called rolled oats or porridge in Australia but do you mean to say you cook it with water and eat it like that. I can't imagine its very nice? Or do you put milk on it somewhere and if so, how come you don't report this? Do you also put sugar on it. Or is all this included in the box it comes in. If so, its a processed food and I wouldn't think its the best option. Its better to make your own porridge, then you have more control over what goes in it, including how much salt.

Also it looks like you are desperately trying to avoid all fat. This is not necessary. You should eat some fat. I suggest including vegetable oils in your cooking. I use 1-2 tsp whenever i cook with oil. Avocardo is good. Oily fish like salmon is good. These are valuable fats and the body doesn't make the good things that htey contain. So you should eat some. Aim for a minimum of about 20g of fat per day which is about 1tbsp. YOu can afford to do this without altering anything else you are eating.

You food should be yummy but what you've got on your diet looks too severe to be really enjoyable.

Apart from tasting a little 'chalky' I don't think there's anythign wrong with protein bars. You would be better off with some scrambled egg whites(in olive oil w/onion) and a glass of milk though ;)

Your diet is great. You are doing nothing wrong.

.

Maybe less oats and stop consuming food after 1900.

test it I am sure it will work.

loosing 6 lbs is not great keep on it.

This diet has way to many carbs and not enough protein or good fats.
