I never ate more than 1850 to 2100 cals per day--dependent upon what my MT line was for that given day in accordance with cardio and weight training. I stayed below it at about -350 ( I liked the higher caloric deficit ranges, slower, but healthier, reduced the amount of muscle loss as well)
My diet consisted of: Various veggies and salad, tuna, chicken, brown rice, various fish including salman, oatmeal, malto meal, pita bread, Natural peanut butter, Almonds, Fruits (bananas, grapefruit, apples, raisins), nonfat and sugar free yogurt, nonfat cottage cheese, FiberOne Cereal with 1% or less milk, lots of water (but I would drink propel on occasion, along with crystal lite varients). I dont get refined sugar in my diet (unless its a predefined cheat day, and its allowed (but very little, and hell since I have stayed away from it for so long, I dont even crave it any longer)
I drank coffee throughout my loss period (lots of it) without any hindrances. I used Splenda for my refined sugar replacement. I stayed away from HFC, white bleached enriched flour, most whole wheat breads that have HFC, sugar and bad oils in them.
I did not take any supplements with the exception of Flax oils and fish oils. most importantly, I had a plan in place for every concievable weakness that I possessed in reference to my diet and connected the brain with the body.
If I needed non stick cooking spray, I used nonfat no calories spray. I used garlic (where appropriate to salt foods, I did not and still do not table salt my foods), parmason, natural jellies, non fat salad dressings.
I premake my craving foods but use splenda for the sugar replacement and lean toward the more healthy choices. (like oatmeal raisin cookies, natural PB cookies, sugar free jello with fruit, and so on).
This was only breif, but should give you an idea.
