Sport Anyone know any healthy shake that doesn't gag you?

Sport Fitness
I recently realized that to gain clean mass I'm going to have to consume 2 meals in the form of shakes due to my job not letting me eat outside of lunch, although they have no problem if your drinking something.

My first experimental shake consisted of:

2 cups of nonfat milk - 160 calories
1 yogurt - Varies between 60-120 calories
1/2 cup of cottage cheese - 90 calories
2 tbsp natural peanut butter - 210 calories
1 cup of quaker oatmeal (dry and uncooked) - 300 calories
1-2 choices of fruit

I tried the shake yesterday morning, I was able to down half of it, but had to stop due to the smell overwhelming me and eventually starting to gag me alittle bit. I think there was too much going on in that shake.

I cropped the shake down to:

2 cups of nonfat milk
2tbsp of natural peanut butter
1 cup of dry oatmeal

This one tastes decent, and I can see myself ingesting this daily.

I was wondering though, does anyone know of any other good tasty shakes that can help build mass?

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Protein shakes are far superior for your goals.

I'm on a pretty tight lunch break atm myself.. but luckily there's a few shops around doing pretty ghood shakes.. Right now I usually do a heavy celery heavy mint / carrot / maybe some wheatgrass if they have some on strawberry -mango or pinapple or berry and no fat milk with 99% fat free yoghurt or ice cream smoothy .. and then If I'm reeal organised i just take a serve or half of my own protein powder and get them to throw that in too..

Soo many wayas to do this. If you can't find a shop that juices or get hold of a juicer on your own.. try to blend a mix of whatever fruit and veg and either freeze or fridge it the night before and bring a cup and some milk to work.. do thaat with some fruit or a wholemeal and protein whatever and try to sip some water through the day,you should be on top;)
.

cheers

BtL.

He means powder. There are many ways to make a protein shake, add some strawberries, bananas, or other berries. Get some choco whey, cottage cheese, pb and there ya go.

My personal favorite is with
1 cup oats
2tbps peanut butter
1 cup milk
1 scoop choco protein powder
1 cup ice
*Good stuff, I think that it is easy to down.. But don't focus on this to fill all your nutrition needs.

I take in 5 meals a day with 1 daytime snack (the snack being around 300 calories) and 1 nighttime snack which is 1/2 cup of cottage cheese before going to bed.

2 of those meals have to be in a shake form so that I am able to drink it while at work. This only applies to weekdays, on weekends I don't have to make shakes, although I may still drink 1 at least on each weekend day.

Does the majority of protein powder taste horrible? Will I gag even with the best tasting powder or am I at a loss and have to force myself to ingest it?

That all depends on your tastes. Personally, it was the exact opposite for me. I liked the taste so much and it was so convenient that I started losing some real meals over drinking a shake.

Tough position eh? Then shakes are a good idea for ya. Honestly, the Optimum Nutrition Chocolate Whey tastes even better than Nesquik Chocolate milk, its awesome stuff and pretty cheap.

I just get PVL whey gourmet powder in Peanut Butter Chocolate flavor. Mix it with water. Tastes great and easy to make.

I don't agree. The protein you're talking about is whey, a fast acting protien, best for PWO when the muscle is depleted of glycogen.

In a non-PWO shake, it's best to get casien protein due to the longer time it take to metabolize.

Milk's protein is 80% casein.
Since yogurt comes from milk, it's safe to assume it's also 80% casein.
Cottage cheese is also predominantly casein.

He's getting around:

Milk: 16g.
Yogurt: 12g
CC: 13g

The PB and oats complete each other's profile, so I'm estimating another 16g or so.

So, 58g protein in a shake.

I agree with cynic (although I didn't understand the bit about PB and oats completing each others profile!) I always have a non PWO shake with milk due to the casiene. I use Banana flavoured Reflex Whey which tastes fantastic with milk and not too bad with water (PWO). Its really easy to mix in a shaker too.

But, as has already been said, it will depend largely on your own personal tastes.

Its good pwo yes but not because of lower glocogel levels, thats what you have carbs for. You want fast protein pwo because it will break the catabolic state caused by training

So it could be a good idea to mix whey protein powder with MILK if it's being drank in the morning/during the day and NOT PWO??

But when it is PWO it should be mixed with water???
I usually have two a day, one with breakfast or during the day, and one PWO.
I ALWAYS mix mine with water, 40g powder mixed with 1 Pint Water.

what protein brand do you use ???
I cant drink my nitrean with water alone it tastes awful

is it bad to drink whey with milk ....

I drink it with milk (non fat)

only for pwo I drink it with water because I add dextrose which makes it sweeter ... otherwise It has to be milk ....

what brand of protein powder do you guys drink ?? I get nitrean ... a blend mix .. what about you guys ???

I'm working off the assumption that the PWO shake has the proper amount of carbs.

Anything other than meat, dairy, eggs and fish have some essential amino acid missing or in such a limitation as to make it an incomplete EAA profile.

Nuts and grains can fill in each other's gaps and make a complete EAA source.
