Anyone have a rings setup?

At the gym I've been really in to muilti joint exercies and try to use my body weight as often as I can. For example, instead of hitting my biceps 3 different ways with curls, I'm doing 1 set of curls and different types of chinups/pullups now.

Anyway, I'm really looking to blast my shoulders and arms. Does anyone have a rings setup at home? I'm just looking for some advice you might have.

Thanks.

No one uses rings?

I'm assuming that when you say rings, you mean gymnastics rings. Are you looking to purchase some rings, or to find exercises to do on them?

I do use rings, but I use them at the gym. I can't do the iron cross anymore, but I can still do most other positions.

You can set them up at home, but IMHO, you would need to have a higher than standard ceiling if you're going to be doing any gymnastics moves on them. If you are only using them for push-ups, pull-ups, etc., then you're probably good to go with a normal ceiling height.

This site doesn't look bad, but without knowing your athletic background, I really have no idea what your body is capable of doing.

lol! He's right to warn you. You're one reply away from n00dz.

Anyway, making my own rings was an integral part of my arm/shoulder development. What advice are you looking for? I guess I'll tell you what I tell everyone who tries em for the first time- everyone shakes. It's just a matter of getting used to it. So keep practicing.

It's difficult for me to find a proper height to do pullups and muscleups, just because of the type of system I use for hanging (tie-downs). I've used mine mostly for dips and rows, both at the gym or hanging under my stairs.

I just bought some real rings. They should be delivered shortly. I expect that they will make muscleups and iron cross training will be much more efficient.

Well, I just bought these

I've canceled my gym membership and I am building a home gym. I've got a Weider 4870 home gym, an ez-bar curl, a treadmill, and about 200 lbs of various oylmpic plates I got used from play it again sports, and I'm building an outdoor pullup and rings station. I also want to get a massive tractor tire for me to flip around and beat the hell out of with a sledge hammer.

What kind of a routine do you guys do with your rings?

I also bought those.

I integrate rings into my training wherever I can. I use them for GPP/work capacity, max effort (dips), move training (iron cross, muscle up), etc. I have a previous chest injury and rings really helped me get over that.

You can do about 100000 exercises with rings. Each one could be used differently.

Isn't there is a DVD that comes with the rings? Maybe you have to buy it ...

My routine is more gymnastics-based (yes, I know it's a male event, but us girls also played around on the rings), although I don't do it that often in the gym unless there are only a few people around because it attracts far too much attention, and I don't like people staring at me in the gym.

Heck, the rings attract attention no matter what you're doing on them. Even if it is just push ups. And Lei is right -- you will shake. It feels unsteady, but you'll conquer it ;)

Here's a link to some of the exercises:

Rings came in the mail today.

They are way superior to the type of straps I was using, both in the ease of height adjustment, and grip. It's hard to false grip a straight handle.
