anyone doing LA Weight Loss program

Hi guys. I started doing LA Weight Loss seriously a couple of weeks ago. So far I have lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks. I'm taking the LA Lites, and all of the supplements. I have another 5 week supply left of the supplements and I don't want to buy any more. I am 32, 5'3" and 188 pounds. Goal weight is 130. Any advice?

Hyperose mentioned being on te program here:

there's another thread that I am unsuccessfully able to find that contained the health magazine review of the diet but I can't find it.

Sometime early last year -I looked into it -and sat with a consultant for about an hour - they spent an awful lot of time pushing bars and supplements which I wasnt 100 percent sure were useful.

I'm not a fan of any program that supplements are more than encouraged - though health magazine says its not bad - it just expensive.

Based on what you have learned so far from them - do you feel like you could procede on your own -withut the supplements -then I would absolutely say put that money towards a sassy new wardrobe and tell them to take a hike..

I'm doing LAWL currently. I've been on the program for 14 weeks or so. I've lost 25 pounds and need to lose another 10 to reach my goal. I like the bars. I think they're a great way to fill my cravings for chocolate without going crazy. My fave is chocolate mint. Yummmmmmy! If you aren't chocolate freak, then you could probably go without the bars. I didn't bother with the supplements at all. I just ate a lot better. Eliminated junk food. I was pretty strict for the first 12 weeks and have been kinda failing lately. I've lost so much motivation b/c I haven't been losing and people really noticed how much I lost so I felt like I didn't have to keep eating so well. I need a kick in the butt... and the counselors are great for that. If I'd confide in them. I like the program but you are the only one who can make the decision if it's right for you. You seem to be doing well so far.

Don't let the counselors pressure you too much. I know that can happen. Just say no and be done with it ya know. That's my problem too. I feel bad saying no sometimes.

hey valerie

Thanks for replying. I'm just soooo confused, because I've heard so many different things about LA Weight Loss. Some say it works, some say its a scam. I'm on the gold plan. I guess I'm just gonna stick with it for a while a see what happens. I haven't lost any weight this week. I also love the bars. I just hope it works, because I am so determined and so motivated right now. I hope I see results before I get discouraged.

Don't give up yet! I would definitely keep it up if you're so determined and motivated. That's how I started. I'm on the Gold plan as well. I love my starches. :p Good luck! You'll be fine.

This company was on 20/20 last Friday. A bunch of "counselors" who had quit talked about how they were trained to prey upon peoples' weaknesses in order to sell more supplements and bars. All of them admitted that they knew virtually nothing about nutrition or how to get people to lose weight.

Just remember that ALL diets are "gimmicks" to get you to have a calorie deficit every day, no matter what they claim. If the "gimmick" works, that's fine, but realize what you're spending your money on.

I saw the same 20/20 program too. I'm not sure how this program works, but from the report it looks like it was ripping people off by offering food programs.

I would much prefer cooking my own food and shopping for the right groceries and making the right choices myself, versus someone telling me what I should buy.

Good luck.

I didn't see the 20/20 special but can attest that my counselors never "made" me buy anything. I like the bars so I buy those. Well I bought in bulk at the beginning, quite pricey yes, and will probably not buy again. But I'm glad I did for my weightloss time.

I cook my own food all the time and eat out even. LAWL gives you a whole section on restaurants and what to order and how to count it.

The counselors get commision on what they sell so no kidding they're going to try to sell you but you can always say no. It is very similar to WW but you get one-on-one help instead of group.

Everyone fits into some program or makes up their own.

Hi everyone. I have been following the LAWL plan since November 2005. I lost 35 lbs and many inches during the weight loss stage of the plan and have been on maintence ever since. Overall, the plan worked for me and I never felt "pressured" to buy the products although I can see how some counselors would be more pushy than others. I LOVE the LA Lites (particularly the chocolate ones) as they would help my cravings for chocolate. I also liked the Fast Forward juice which I used on occasion (not every 2 weeks!!!) to help get myself refocused and to jump start my body when I hit a plateau. I have used some of the supplements (particularly the Carb Cravers) and find that - again - some seemed to make a difference and some didn't.

I believe the basis of the plan is good. Like WW, it helps you learn to eat better - having a balanced diet. It is stricter in that some foods are not allowed on the plan - these of course are foods that at the end of the day aren't the best for you anyway. The plan worked for me because it was structured (I had my best success when I kept my diary and went to the center multiple times a week), allowed me to use my own food and provided one-on-one support (vs the group support at WW). Is it expensive? Yes. But for me - at the end of the day - I was FINALLY able to lose the weight and yes - keep it off. The supplements were not required - I made the decision to use them and in many cases they did speed up the results. I would use them for a period of time and then stop using them depending on what I was hoping to achieve.

In terms of the 20/20 show...I did not see it, but read the article on-line. I think you just need to put it into perspective - the counselors are not "trained nutrition counselors" and yes, part of their job is to sell product - it is a business after all! From my perspective - net, net - the plan works if you follow it. If you ignore the "hype" of the counselors and just follow the plan, you will lose weight. In terms of all the products - use what works for you (both financially and personally) and ditch the rest!!

My Wife and I just signed up for L.A. Weight Loss last week, and it was only today that I read your posts on the salesmanship of product, as well as the 20/20 episode of which you speak. I can say honestly that I had some concerns about the process once I read these posts.

Thankfully, we just went for our first appointment today, where we were provided our respective Meal Plans, and were informed about the different supplements and snack bars that could be purchased. I was happy to find that while we were informed about the products available, the counselor didn't go out of her way to 'push' any products on us.

I did go in thinking that I might have to fight against purchasing the products (which aren't in my Wife's or my personal plans) but was pleasantly surprised that it didn't happen to us.

I feel bad for those who do have to endure the 'hard sell', as sometimes, salespeople try to guilt you into buying, or tell you that you won't succeed if you don't buy their product. I've been a member of a few gyms where this has been the case, so we are both pleasantly surprised about our experience today.

Lawl

Hi, I started LAWL in Aug of 2006. I weighed 264 and I am now at 203. I have lost a total of 30 inches overall. I do like the bars, its like my candy for the day. I don't do the supplements or the take-off. The plan has helped me make better food choices, I am free to eat anything I want. I have to figure it in to the plan I am on, but anything goes!!

I am stuck on a plateau right now and was told I exercised too much for the amount I took in. They moved me back to my original plan that has an extra starch and half protein. I drink the 72oz of water a day. Hopefully they do know what they are talking about with the excercise, I do not want to put any back on.

Right now I ride my bike or walk for 5 hours a week. Does anyone know if the added food will help if I continue to exercise like I have been?

I actually did very well when I first started the program. Lost several pounds each week.

Unfortunately, things got busy, we sold our house...yadda yadda.

So 6 months have now passed and I haven't been back. Mind you I've already paid for everything. Tomorrow I am headed down there to get my butt back on track!

I refuse to spend another year as a fatty! If anyone wants to join my group and be accountable for reaching their goals...come on! I could use the inspiration and perhaps...a little competition?? ;)

I joined LA Weight Loss one month ago, and I've lost 18 pounds, from 217 to 199! I love the program. The councillors at my location are wonderful and they do not push any of the products. I do not use the supplements or the lite bars. I do purchase the chocolate biscotti (1fruit and 1starch), for those times when I need a chocolate/sweet. I feel that in 1 month I've had fantastic success! Stick to it and you can have success too!

I follow this program very strickly, drinking all my water and alloted food...but it really is simply making better food choices. I haven't done any extra walking or workouts, I've just modified my diet. I love the accountability of going into the centre twice a week and have the councillors there to answer questions.

Best of luck with LA!

This is my second time around on LA weight loss. Their supplementsm both the vitamins and LA lites are very expensive. What I did was tell them that I did not want to use their supplements or bars any longer. Then, I cut out all the nutritional information from their packages and took it to the grocery store to match as best I could with products on the market. Bascially their LA bars are very similar to Luna Bars. So I started using those, just don't tell them they will insist they aren't the same thing. I started taking a multi-vitamin supplement and Omega-3. I didn't believe I needed the other things they try to sell. I still lost weight.

LA Weight Loss Centers Closing

They have closed a few centers in my area. I heard that Corporate had bought back some centers that were franchises. My guess is that they probably closed the less profitable ones.

They're closing. Why? Because it's a scam!

The "counselors" are not nutritionists. They are businesspeople. They are trained to sell you LA Lites.

I was diagnosed with PCOS while on LAWL. They had NO IDEA how to work with my new medical needs and kept trying to sell me LA Lites despite the fact that I was supposed to reduce sugar and carbs due to the PCOS. They had no idea how to alter the diet plan for my needs.

They also had almost no knowledge of how to provide a healthy plan for a vegetarian.

I am glad they closed. They are horrible.

I did the same and also found the Luna Bars to be very similar. I really liked the LA program, I found it to be very helpful in helping me learn how to eat balance, healthy meals. I did like the bars, especially the double fudge, they were not only fillling, but seemed to give me energy. I had to stop for financial reasons. If you choose not to go with the bars, they give you a program with an extra protein and starch(don't quote me on that). I also made a vegetable soup that helped me stay full.

The plan is a good one. Some are pushy about buying the bars, mine was very pushy, but I never bought them in bulk. Its worth a try, with or without the food products. It is a good program, imo.

Good Luck! I am going to try the program again on my own. I have 50 lbs. to lose, but really just want to feel good again (you know, less aches on the feet and knees, get my breath back, and look good).

I think the main thing, is to watch your portions and read the calorie content of whatever you are going to eat. Add more fruits and vegetables to your diet and incorporate some exercise. It doesn't have to be hours at the gym, just a little more motion than you are doing now. do things gradually and you will feel better and start to lose a few pounds. It does help to keep a journal of all that you consume and you will really be amazed at how much food you eat!
