Anybody ZUMBA?

I have thought about ordering a Zumba workout video, but wanted opinions on it first. The YMCA has classes available, but they are only offered during the day when most people are at work including me :).

If you use Zumba, please let me know how you like it, if you go to a class, or if you use a video and which video do you like the best.

I love Zumba, I do it at least once a week when I have spare time!
 
I went to one class and loved it so I bought the DVD and WII version. I go to classes 3 times a week and some of the adults in the family have our own Zumba session every Sunday morning. I go to the gym and do a lot of cardio, run road races but Zumba is quite the workout. If you like to dance, why not burn some calories at the same time?

Here is the interesting part, I'm a 60 year old male and the only guy in the classes most of the time. When my wife said to try Zumba, all I said was, "What the heck is Zumba?"

60 lbs down. 15 to go. Merengue anyone?

my hair dresser recommended zumba to me ... i have yet to try it but she had nothing but nice things to say i think im going to start by getting the zumba for the wii
 
Zumba....ooooo Zumba...I tried it for the first time a few weeks ago...AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!

It's fantastic! you go at your own pace, great music, fun dance moves- and what I loved most, was that there were people of every shape, size and age doing it!!

If you have a chance to try it- you really should :)
 
I would love to have a Zumba workout video! Been thinking about getting one, just haven't yet. I typed in beginners Zumba in my search and it showed some basic moves, it was great. I think it would be a good workout. One of the members Christine does the Zumba, I think she said she got a game for her Wii.

I am turning 63 in a couple of days and I love it!!

I've heard the zumba game for the Wii is fantastic! Perhaps that can be a birthday present for you :D

I love zumba for many reasons! Sure it's a fantastic cardio workout...but it's also so much fun! And the energy from everyone is great!!

If you can try a class out for free somewhere, I would highly recommend it! There's nothing like a group boogie to make you smile!! :)

What kind of people go to Zumba? I mean i don't really want to join a class thats full of 90lb people whos bodies don't move when they swing!

Hi there Equi!

Well, I'm sure a lot of classes are different! But the one I go to has a range of body shapes, sizes, ages, and ethnicity! I had the same reservations when I went, thinking that I would stand out and be lagging behind- but I fit right in! There were people bigger than me, smaller, and the same size! There were people who were perfect at the moves, and people who would just dance around and having fun - not caring if they were getting the moves perfect!

Perhaps go to a zumba class and try it out! If you don't like it, perhaps try a different one! I understand your hesitation - as I totally felt the same way - but I think for the most part, zumba is there to let you have fun, enjoy yourself, and get some cardio :)

Hi Tik, dancing of any kind will keep you fit and you will lose weight if you make a habit of dancing. When I was in my 20's I danced a lot or you could say I moved what "Bud" I had around, heee.

I put a dancing DVD in this morning and it was hard! Its not Zumba, but it will work your body. I have two different ones, but just haven't used them for a while. Cheap DVDs from WalMart (10minute Solution Dance it off & tone it up and 10 minute Fat Blasting Latin Dance Mix). Each one has (5) 10 minute workouts. I didn't finish the first 10min. workout! The last 3 days I have been walking at a fast pace with L.Sansone walk at home DVD (4miles a day) + quest exercise from Heroic mode 90 day challenge! It looks like to me, I would have a 90lb body, but Not! My scales must have super clue on them:smilielol5:
 
I have never tried Zumba before. Is there a specific DVD someone would recommend to start off with?

I am not sure if the Zumba DVD can be bought in the Fye Stores or not. But I have heard you can get Zumba for the Wii game and the X game. I think Tik goes to Zumba classes and there is an older man that goes to the classes that are members on this forum. Another member Christen does Zumba, I think with the Wii game. But someone may be able to tell us where to buy a Zumba DVD. We could order from the Internet, but I don't order from the Internet. I would like to get a Zumba DVD too.

You can type in Zumba in your search, I did this on msn and got the Zumba for '1Goal'-SHAKIRA'S WAKA WAKA (Lindsay Jay Fitness). It is enough to get me started and I just saved it to my favorites. This will give you a good Idea what Zumba is about. It showed different ones doing different things. I enjoyed it...good exercise.

I bought the DVD on Amazon.
 
Zumba is actually an Excellent program, but the is one thing in it. It is not so easy as it looks like, unless you've got some phisical preparation before. Regards
 
I heard about this! I was talking to someone who does at a woman-only gym and she said it's a blast! She said everyone kinda just dances around all crazy (I wasnt envisioning something as organized, in unison, and skilled as the video). She also said that since its female only, it makes it comfortable to go crazy and not be self-consious.
MichaelB, maybe they will come out with a Zumba DDR edition for you? jk!

I recently looked at reviews for workouts for game consoles.
What I found was Zumba for Xbox kinect was considered to be superior to the Wii version.
What I saw on Youtube reviews was that the kinect is able to read your body's motion's much more accurately.
If anyone wants, I can send you a few youtube review links via PM.
 
I went to my first Zumba class the other day and really liked it. I stayed at the back and couldn't do all the moves properly but I still worked up a sweat. Will definitely be going again.
