Sport Any vegetarian successful at lifting?

Sport Fitness
Hello everybody,

I am curious if anybody here is a full vegetarian (or even a raw vegetarian) and also does lifting successfully. Or even other sports. I am under some pressure from my significant other to clean up my act and eat healthier...

Thanks

It's far easier to get the nutrients you need by being an omnivore (which is what our GI tract is actually designed to handle).

Homo sapiens are not herbivores. Our GI tracts are incapable of processing cellulose, which is why we have a very small caecum and a non-functioning appendix. Moreover, humans do not re-ingest our feces like most other herbivores/vegetative matter ingestors so our GI tract can have another go at it!!! Granted, vegetarians will eat legumes to obtain some form of protein, but if you have a legume allergy, you're FUBAR. BTW, soy is not something you want to put into your body unless you want to be estrogenized.

I think it's much better to try to eat a healthy omnivorous diet than pretend you're something you're not. Tons of people on this forum eat extremely healthy diets that include meat. You can, too.

Just my $0.02.

That's an odd quote you have there:

"Failure is the path of least persistance."

I would've thought it to be resistance... not persistance.

You can get your essential amino acids by eating eggs/dairy or by combining grains and legumes. Rice and beans would give you a complete array of essential amino acids.

Soy in small amounts, like a little bit of miso soup every once in a while won't hurt you but using it as a meat replacement isn't the best idea. All of those fake meat products that say "vegetarian" on them are just as processed and junky as most non-vegetarian processed foods.

It's noble to go all vegetarian or vegan, but I don't believe it's necessary to have a healthy, balanced diet. You could adopt the "flexitarian" lifestyle and eat a couple of servings of meat a week (preferably wild fish for the omega 3) and then eat vegetarian the rest of the time.

Kevin Eubanks from the Tonight Show is into bodybuilding, and a strict vegetarian (no clue if he's actually vegan or not).

he's got a pretty respectable body.

LOL great line: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

LOVE IT
