Any ideas for losing weight?

Hello
I'm glad to belong to a group like this. It will help keep me accountable. I weighed 235lbs. 18 months ago and have taken off aproximently 2 pounds a month, just by doing some mild weight lifting and 30 mineuts on the treadmill 2-3 times a week. Also, I'd say that stopping overeating is a big contributer.

I got stuck on a plateau at around 208, but moved down 3 lbs. since. So I think it might be slow going. I'd like to loose about 30 more pounds.

Welcome to the site!

Hey Mack

Whats the weight lifting routine look like? How many calories are you burning a session right now for the cardio?

Maybe I can offer a couple of suggestions.

You should increase the intensity of your workout. When you are overweight or obese weight falls off for the first 20 or so pounds, but after that its slower. You should try maybe a faster speed on the treadmill and maybe adding 15 minutres more to each workout.

Thats what I have been doing. I started at 350lbs and could only do like 25 minutes on a treadmill at that time. Now I am down to 250lbs and I do 1 hour at 4mph with a incline going up hill.

Welcome.

It sounds like you are doing pretty well already!

I agree that you should think about increasing your workout. I am starting to get to a similar point where the walking that once seemed so hard is not becoming routine. I need to move up to the next level.

Please do not exercise too much

Although losing weight is our goal, exercising too much will result in fatigue. Not only that, you will find it too tiring and will not persist in it anymore. Things to do beside exercising.

1. Dinner - Reduce your portion greatly. This is because our body digest very slowly during night time.
2. Eat supplements - Flaxseed oil and CLA (made up sun flower oil)
3. Eat more vegetables (perferably raw ones)
4. Avoid chocolates and coffee
5.Drink more alkaline and ionizer water. Alkaline water can be made by adding 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1 liter. DO NOT CONSUME DIRECTLY. One person need to drink at least 2 liters of water each day (this does not include beverages that you drink)
6. Reduce the intake of Milk and eggs. If can avoid, even better.

I hope you find my suggestion useful. Because of my knee pain, I cannot exercise much. So I manage to find other ways to lose weight and I manage to lose 6kg till now. Don't worry. No starving needed too:rolleyes:

Thanks for the welcome and encouragement. I did not think I'd get such a helpful response like this.

I'm doing many of the things phweighloss mentioned, I still havn't given up my caffine, but, I'm down to one cup a day. What is the logic behind drinking more "Alkaline water"?

BigBear and KTownBoy, thank you, I think that is good advice, I just moved to 30 minuets arobic sessions this last week, probally be a few weeks before I extend my session. I do weight lifting rather quickly so my HR is up near 130 when I climb on the treadmill or glider thingy.

Buildingbodies, my weightlifting is the regular bench, bicep, tricep, squats, crunches, back dips, leg lifts, rows, lat pull downs, etc. I'm not doing any serious weight, because I don't need an injury. I just moved up my weight last week about 20 lbs. per exercise because it was getting too easy.
I havn't paid too much attention to the calorie counter, I think it is around 200-300 on the treadmill. You bet I'd be interested in any work out routines you might have.

Logic behind alkaline water

Our body is make up up to 60% of water. Everyday , our body loses 2 to 3 liters through normal activity (breathing, sleeping, walking around). Therefore it is vital not only replace the water inside the body but also hydrate your body.

Unfortunately most of the fluid we drink are acidic like coffee, tea and soft drink. Even most tap water are acidic. These acidic fluid will burden our acidic body even more.

To make sure that the water we drink are helpful, we should only drink alkaline water. The alkaline water will prevent our body from being more acidic and waste away toxics accumulate in our body.

For ideal health and weight, you need much more good water. If you do not drink enough water, then you'll get fat and your body will tend to retain water. Simple as that. Even mild dehydration slows metabolism by as much as 3 percent. Most important, the body need water to neutralize acids and flush toxics through sweat and bowels. So the consequences in not drinking enough water may result in constipation, asthma, skin problems etc.:)

I would change the exercise routines a bit. The key is to "surprise" your body from time to time. Say you walk slowly for an hour today, then tomorrow walk very briskly for 45 mins, and then mix jogging and walking the following day. If your body adapts to the same routine, it doesn't burn as many calories as you want.

Same goes for weight training. Vary your routine, muscle groups and intensity.
