Any idea why I'm not losing?

I'm overweight at the moment about 20lbs or so.

I'm currently vegan and have been having a pretty healthy diet of around 1500 calories and working in a pretty physical job 5 days a week and I haven't lost any weight in months. I've tried lowering the calories a little but it didn't effect my weight loss in any way. Just made me feel exhausted.

I had an eating disorder for a couple of years and I'm worried that I may have messed up my metabolism a little...

I'm not sure what's going on to be honest.

Any advice?

Thanks for reading! :)

You may need to start tricking your body by cycling higher and lower calories each day. Like go 1800-1500-1900-1400 something like that. Your body likes to stay at a certain weight, so if you're eating the same amount of calories each day, it'll adapt to that and keep itself where it is comfortable.

If you have been eating the same foods everyday, try eating different foods. According to my medical encyclopedia 1987. Average calorie requirements for a working adult female is 2000 calories a day and for an adult male is 2900 calories a day. If one goes over this amount they will gain, but if you go under this amount of calories you should lose. You could keep a daily diet of your calorie intake and make sure you are counting your calories right. Daybehavior may be right on what he said by tricking your body by using higher and lower calories each day. I do that with counting points all the time and it works for me.

Dropping Calories Is not enough make sure you also follow an exercise regimen which includes cardio and intensive weight lifting.

the first thing I usually look at here is just how sure are you on your calorie intake. We underestimate our calories all the time. Might I suggest writing everything you eat for a week, then look back at it? You might actually be eating much more than you realize. Vegan doesn't mean low calorie.

Cardio and intensive weight lifting would help bring the weight off with watching calorie intake. But it is hard going to the gym when working hard physical 5 days a week, especially if you have to work alot of over time.

The only way is to eat the right foods period. I know a certified nutritionist so she told me how to eat.

Hey, my name is Dave. I'm actually a new health and wellness coach working for herbalife, the company that sponsors the la galaxy and their fitness programs, we have a great program If you really want to lose weight and get in shape give me a call. We have a great program to help people lose weight and it's easy. I live in the LA area but I can also set you up over the phone. REMOVED. just give me a call and we can do a free health evaluation about you and your goals and we can put you on a 90 - day path of getting there. And I'm not talking like you won't see results until 90 days, I am saying you will see and feel them almost instantly for the whole time. Its an excellent way to get the weight off and keep it off. If you are serious about getting healthy just give me a call because their are no maybes, it does work and i would be there every step of the way.

First of all, avoid this person like the plague from now on, obvious peddler of fad diets trying to take your money is obvious. Also, shame on someone claiming to be a "pro" not telling a person who has suffered from an eating disorder to see a doctor first, shame shame shame on you! Like, really much shame!

To the OP:

Like others have noted, start out by doing a caloric diary and make sure you're getting the calories you want to get, then, if cutting down on energy isn't an option the next stet would be to use more energy i.e. go to the gym, start running or some such thing.

BUT, and this is IMPORTANT, if you have suffered from an eating disorder, you should talk to your doctor FIRST since this can have a variety of delicious effects on the human body and how it works, and there are ways of building up metabolism if it is underperforming but it isn't easy peasy and it requires the attention of actual nutritionally educated people and medically educated people, not peddlers of fad diets like the one above.

Thank you all for your replies!

I do need to do more exercise I think. I've started doing some small exercises after work and hopefully I'll work up some energy to do something more intense soon!

If I don't see results soon I might go to a nutritionist who can give me some advice on losing weight healthily after an eating disorder! Because it's just really difficult.

Anyhoo thanks again guys! Have a great day!

Try something different

Hi Morrigan

There are many useful contributions above. I want to alert you to something you could try that should get the thumbs up from any Doctor.
Calories are energy and the way to lose weight is to burn/use more energy than you are putting in. If you are exercising regularly then you should be able to cope with any reasonable amount of calories.
Your post asked why the weight wasn't dropping off. This may seem odd, but just humour me and just do this for a month.
Use that cinema screen in your head to create a picture in your mind of yourself stepping onto the scales and being delighted to see them read exactly what you want as your next weight goal. Make that picture as vivid and bright and realistic as you possibly can.
Notice the date...set the date.
Then in your mind, step into the picture and live it, experience it, use your 5 senses, what can you see, what do you hear, what do you say to yourself, what is everyone else saying to you as they congratulate you, how do you celebrate your success, what can you smell, taste....how good do you feel.
Do this every day, first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Let your subconscious work on it whilst you sleep.
Just try it every day for a month (What harm can it do?) and notice what happens.
Every successful athlete utilises this type of visualisation. Try it for yourself and then come back and tell me just how successful you were.
Your unconscious mind is very powerful. Use it.

I wish you every success.

I'm not familiar enough with a vegan diet (and of course with your personal story) to be of much help, but consider tracking your calories carefully for a week or two to see if that's maybe where you're underestimating what you're eating.
