Any idea as to what has happened?

I had been losing 1/2 lb a week (average) up to Christmas.

Over Christmas I enjoyed a good Christmas meal, and the following week tried
really hard. I restricted my breakfast and lunch to a low calorie meal (mostly
fruit) to compensate for what I thought would be some weight gain.

That week I lost 4lbs!

Following week I went back to my pre Christmas diet - I weighed myself in and
found I put on 9lbs!

So I am now 5lbs heavier than before. But my clothes fo not seem to show it.
Last two weigh ins show no weight loss at all.

Rather discouraged!

some more details? like what you eat. how much you eat a day. your exercise?

I find it difficult to look at such a narrow set of data.

For example, we're looking at a two week period, where you saw a 5lb. increase (based on 2 weigh-ins).

What do you weight today? Have you just been the same weight for the last few weeks, because the week after Christmas was a month ago!

Also, it's much more reliable to reflect on a whole month instead of a couple weeks. I threw out the weeks after Xmas, because even though I maintained my diet 95% of the vacation, I had a few crazy days.

Tob is right though, some more information:

1. what are you eating right now, still low-cal?
2. are you exercising?
3. What have you weighed the last few weeks?

PS - if your clothes are fitting well, you could be putting on some muscle, because if you lost fat, and put back on the same fat, it would have most likely have gone to the same part of the body, so clothes would be back to pre-loss fitting (relatively speaking)...

Well - went and weighed today and hey.. loss of 4 lbs.

Same place, same time, same scales. Recokon must have been water weight!

I agree with what was said above. You may only want to weigh yourself once a week.

I weigh myself every morning, but If your going to do that you have to embrace the fact that there are fluctuations caused by this and that and can't get all antsy over a seemingly bizarre drop or gain in weight (IMO).

The real picture is whether your weight/size is decreasing over the long term, whether your clothes are getting too big, and how you feel.

Goodluck with your journey!
