Weight-Loss Any health concern for this bet?

I mentioned to my friend that I could live off egg sandwiches. He said it was impossible and I told him to put his money where his mouth is. He said he'd give me $100 if I could eat nothing but egg sandwiches for 3 months. (I also get coffee allowed and alcohol.) My only concern is the nutrition break down. It would be 43% fat, 34% carbs, 23% protein. I can have as many as I want but at least 3 a day. I think I would at least need to eat 4 as they are only around 300 calories each.

We then agreed on $250 if I could do p90x while on the diet. I think I can do this, but I want to know any health concern from the nutrition imbalance. Considering eggs and whole wheat bread is better than many americans diet I do think I have much to worry about. It would be two eggs and two pieces of bread per sandwich. No condiments allowed. This is a serious post, haha. Thoughs?

Honest?

Stupid bet. Can you live off it? yes.

Will you likely want to die instead? yes

Is it bad for your health..most likely not good for it..So you are living off beer, coffee, eggs and bread for 3 months...does that sound wise? Are you that hardup for money to put your body and health through that?

Well of course you could live off of it easily. It'd suck after the first week and you'd be fed up with it. And...it's only for $100??? Why spend three months eating egg sandwiches for that measly amount of money?

Wow that might be the stupidest bet I've ever heard of.

Really? For $100 you're willing to risk muscle loss, increased cholesterol, increased blood pressure, etc., etc.?

*shrug*

I guess it takes all kinds.

Well this is why I'm getting opinions and not just doing it.

A short summary. I am broke. Lost my job months ago and because eggs and bread are EXTREMELY cheap, they made up a good portion of my diet. I have no income at the moment and things like meat are a rare treat. I was eating a lot of pasta and red sauce because it's cheap as well, but stopped that due to it being too many carbs.

Considering the typical american diet and also considering the fact I use to eat fast food 3 meals a day, I'm thinking eggs and wheat bread, though not ideal and as balanced a diet as one could have if money was no issue, isn't THAT bad. So with whatever diet I might have muscle loss is most likely going to happen with my budget. I've researched eggs and found there are a lot of debates on how many eggs one can have in their diet. Though eggs have a lot of cholesterol, it's not known that dietary cholesterol increases ones personal cholesterol. Eggs are the best source of protein, vitamins and minerals (more so than meat).

The bet is really not for money, it's a personal thing. I like to prove people wrong when they believe I can't do something. Also my food budget would be less than a dollar a day.

heh, if you're concerned about the cholesterol, try egg beaters instead, but yeah, stock up on the multivitamins.

Really tho, you're just looking for trouble. People have survived on it, but there's a big difference between surviving because that's all you have, and surviving for $100 bucks.

I would have held out for at least $850

Sure it's true that dietary cholesterol has little effect on serum cholesterol - in reasonable amounts. But when you eat nothing but eggs .. you're pushing the limits of what your body can handle.

And sure, you're on a budget and eating healthy is going to be touch and go - but for less than eggs and bread will cost you, you could buy a huge variety of beans, lentils, brown rice, and even a few pounds of cheap ground chuck and have a reasonably healthy plan. It might not be exactly a weight loss plan, but it'd be better than nothing but eggs and bread.

And quite honestly the whole "I have to prove people wrong when they say I can't" is flat out idiotic. If the man said you couldn't jump off the Empire State bldg and live, would you say "watch me"? If someone said you couldn't drink a gallon of vodka at a sitting, would you give yourself alcohol poisoning just to show them? I mean seriously ... and I mean this in the kindest way possible ... grow up. Being right isn't the be-all and end-all. And proving you can do something stupid just to show someone up is about as childish as it gets.

I appreciate your response, but I'm not going to jump of a building, c'mon. I'm not concerned about the willpower of doing it, just the nutrition. Eggs are one of the best sources of protein, vitamins, and minerals. The protein found in eggs is of a higher quality than the protein found in meat and fish according to what I've found. Though there's no variety, I'm just wondering if the diet would be *that* unhealthy. Thanks.

Yes, it's *that* unhealthy.

Where are you going to get Omega3 and Omega6 fats from?
Where are you going to get Vitamin C from (ever heard of scurvy?)?
Where are you going to get Iron from?
Potassium? B1? Fiber?

Seriously .. it's a stupid bed. Will it kill you? No. Will it do permanent damage? Probably not. Will it probably make you sick by the time you're done? Probably. Will it make you weak and fatigued and cause you to lose muscle and mess you up for a short period of time? Yup.

And aside from all of that, it's childish and stupid and .. *shrug* ... whatever, I guess. I notice you didn't comment on the whole being challenged to drink a gallon of alcohol at a sitting either. :) I think the whole thing says a lot for your maturity level honestly. Risking your health - even in the short term - just to be right is ... well, I guess your right, no matter how dumb I or anyone else thinks it is.

At any rate. There's your answer. I think I'm done here.

I take vitamins for all of those things. I thought it would be natural to assume I'd be taking vitamins. Whoops.

I drink a gallon of alcohol everyday as is. :patriot:

Right. Because we can get all our vitamins and minerals in pill form. Heck, why even bother to eat.

I give. Go for it. It's fine. You'll be perfectly healthy.

I'll move on to someone who actually wants help now.

Edited: I know, I know but I just can't resist. You can't afford to buy decent food, but you can spring for alcohol? Seems to me like your priorities are f'd up.

He appears to be from my neck of the woods, I almost believe the gallon of alcohol part of it just for that. :cheers2::cheers2:

Sorry, can't do anything but make jokes about this at this point.

You know what? This is starting to scream attention seeker. He wants our opinions. We told him this is stupid. We told him it is unhealthy. He just jokes or ignores or make excuses.

I'm done with this one.
