Anti pronation inserts

I've suffered with shin splints, painful feet and knees for a while now to the point where I haven't really been running for a long time. Yesterday at the gym, I had a free video analysis of my running action and found that my feet are pronating quite severely when I run. The guy doing the assessment is basically a shoe salesman and so clearly he tried to sell me some nice expensive new trainers to fix the problem!

Before parting with my hard earned cash, I've been doing a bit of 'googling' and have come across some pretty cheap (relatively speaking) anti pronation inserts. Does anyone have any experience of these? How effective are they?

If that's the only issue causing the problems I've found these to be excellent inserts for pronation issues.

Also good ones are the Spenco orthotic insoles.

I have never tried the inserts before.
If the trainers that you wear now roll slightly inwards now,the inserts will not stop that, they might reduce the roll but not stop it completley.
So you might still suffer with the same problems.

I under-pronate. I have not used inserts but buy running shoes that correct under-pronation.

Here are some shoes for over-pronation:

Also, I found this to be very helpful in picking shoes:

(I actually own the book).

Although I do buy shoes that correct my under pronation, I do not spend beaucoup bucks on my shoes (usually under $60). I usually buy "last years style" of Asics and save more that 50% off the new style of the same shoe (the guy at the Sports Authority store was very helpful inthis respect).

Good luck.
