About a year ago while hiking a portion of the Appalachian trail with my dad, my ankle suddenly began to hurt, it was even hard to walk. So I decided to go to the orthopedist to get it checked out. From the orthopedist I learned that I have "Accessory Navicular syndrome," a rather common ailment in which an extra bone grows. In the majority of cases it doesn't hurt however, if the bone is large enough it rubs against shoes and becomes inflamed and painful. The orthopedist gave me orthotics inserts for my shoes and sent me to physical therapy in order to strengthen the tendons and muscles surrounding the bone and hopefully lessen the pain. However it didn't help.
Just a few months ago I caught the fitness bug and I've become obsessed with it. I've dropped 30 pounds and gained muscle. I work out at my high school monday, wednesday, and friday while running tuesday, thursday, saturday and sunday.
Now to get to the point of this thread. Since I've started to run more frequently my left leg(the extra bone on my left is much larger than the one on the right) has begun to hurt as well as the inside of my foot where the extra bone is located. The pain wasn't enough to stop me from running so I didn't do anything about it. Just today I was running with my dad, not a very far run, only 5 or 6 miles and while running up a hill I felt an excruciating pain shoot up my leg and concentrate at my knee. My first thought was that because of the pain in my ankle and leg, my body was compensating and putting pressure on my knee. I asked my sister and she said it could be my ITB. I'm going to my trainer tomorrow to ask about it, but if any of you can offer insight into my problem, it would be very helpful. Thanks. (Sorry about the long post I wasn't sure what the appropriate length of a thread should be because this is the first time I've been to this website)
