In 2008 I created a thread saying that I was motivated to lose weight and get into shape. " I am only 16 years old, and I weigh 239 pounds." I was able to drop down to 220, then ballooned back up to nearly 250 by the time I was 19. When I hit 20 I started playing basketball at my university. My old thread stated, "I want to have fun with this, and I love a challenge, I am not going to give up on this." I failed myself on that promise...at first.
From 250, I am now down to 206. I am 22 years old and am playing basketball at a very high level. I play about 2 hours a day of games/jumpshots/layups and do 20-30 minutes of high intensity sprinting 3x a week. I am in the best shape of my life and am the lightest weight I have been in 9 years. Not just the lightest weight, but the strongest and healthiest. My goal is to be 180 by the end of the March and I really think I should be able to do it.
My eating pattern is non-tradition. I eat when I am hungry, not when the clock tells me. If I am not hungry, I will not eat even if it is "lunch" or "dinner" time. It is difficult for me to always figure out how much food I should eat because I easily burn more than 1,000+ calories playing basketball+high intensity training. I try to worry less about the number and more about the nutritional value of the food item and if I feel that I need the energy. I stopped drinking milk and stopped eating pork. I cut all caloric drinks out of my diet. I eat lean protein, greens, fruits. One day a week (generally at night) I will eat whatever I want, as much as I want. This is generally because Friday nights I spend with my friends and we live life to the fullest. I figure with the amount of hard work I put myself through and the training I do, I deserve a night to forget it all and to enjoy being a young man.
So from 250 pounds at the age of 19/20 I am now down to 206 at the age of 22. Sure, it is still overweight, but it is huge progress and my confidence in myself has grown to a level I've never seen before. People tell me I look great and I have even been told that, had I trained in high school, I could have played any division 1 sport I wanted to in college because they've never seen a 5'9 kid as powerful as me. (oh well, missed opportunity.)
Best of luck, I will post again when I reach my first goal of sub-200 LBS.
