An Old fat fighting "remedy"

In short Dinitrophenol is very unstable and the body has to hard of time regulating it in a safe manner. I don't agree with its use for fat loss.

Neither does the FDA... lol

just curious if anyone has heard of it or possibly used it, though i wouldnt expect them to admit to using it by any means. one of those rare things that defies the usual preached standards of most people. i guess my curiosity stems from just that, what exactly do you tell a person who asks if there is anything that will do the work for them? I mean are you obligated to tell the truth, even if it means mentioning something that could kill them just as easily as it could make them leaner? or do you tell them the little white lie knowing that they are better off doing it the hard way (read: the right way) and not even being tempted by a possible easy ticket out?

ive no wish to discuss the effectiveness or dangers of dnp, i already know those. im curious to know the moral implications behind what you say to a person in this kind of situation. ive been considering becoming a dietician or maybe a PT myself. so what do you pro's do? do you tell them the truth, mention something very dangerous, and then use scare tactics to keep them away from it, or do you just lie and pretend no such thing exists? or maybe just give them the facts and let them decide for themselves?

I can see where you are coming from and here is my personal response.

If someone was taking steroids, illegal fat burners, or something obviously dangerous to their health this is how it is handled.

If not my client-

Jane Doe-"I have decided to start taking DNP cause I heard it will burn the fat off faster."
Myself-"Well, that is certainly your decision, you should know though what you are putting in your body in all aspects, if you are curious for information on how it works and affects your body, let me know."

If they are my client-

Jane Doe-"I have decided to start taking DNP cause I heard it will burn the fat off faster."
Myself-"Well, that is certainly your decision. I have to inform you though that if you choose to take that substance I cannot in good ethical standing continue to have you as my client as my training and nutrition guidelines do not work along the side of those products."

those are some damn good responses, very insightful. and diplomatic, which is usually the safest bet as well.

when i worked at vitamin world, i was often presented with these kinds of sticky situations, except it was with legal products that were just of shady effectiveness. there were also many cases where we had products that were just as useful but also 1/3 the price or less. having the knowledge that i did, and knowing more about those products than what their labels claimed, i was often stuck choosing between my job/commissions, and doing what i thought to be morally correct (giving truthful information). i saved a lot of poeple some money, the customers loved me, but man would my manager have been ticked if she found out. was i supposed to tell little white lies, ones that certainly wouldnt hurt anyone, and keep my job and make some money, or tell the absolute truth, risk my job and not make as much money? not quite the same as the other scenario, but still an important decision to be reached.

perhaps i just think too much, lol

EDIT: i have to admit, i was probably a bit misleading as to where this thread was supposed to go with my original post, lol. then again, i didnt really have any direction in mind, just wanted to hear some philosophizin' related to this whole niche. lol, like i said, i think too much
