Amie's Road to a "smaller wardrobe"

I just joined this group today. I decided at some point last week when i was looking in the mirror that i'd just plain had enough of seeing that reflection. IT'S TIME FOR ME TO DO SOMETHING. Right now I am going to focus on the eating better aspect of weight loss. It's a crazy time at my house being a newlywed, trying to finish a class for web design, working FT and buying/selling our house.

I'm 33, no kids, have asthma (& lots of allergies to go with that). Everyone in my family is skinny as a rail (including my youngest sister who is pregnant with her 2nd kid). My husband & i are going to start trying to have a baby later this year. I don't want to look like a whale. I hate exercise - walking, running, the gym - hate it all. My new house is going to have a pool, which i think will be a great incentive for me to get up & do something that looks like exercise. Any suggestions on what might get me motivated would be greatly appreciated.

My weight loss goals -
current weight: 225
goal weight by sept (week at the beach): under 200
everything after that will be decided later.

I suppose lots of people use this diary as a way to note what they are eating as well. Since work is the hardest for me to get thru, i'll post what i have at work (staying away from the candy dish right outside my office!)

today
breakfast - bowl of oatmeal

lunch
chicken breast with low-fat sour cream & low-fat cream of mushroom soup over it
spoonful of mashed potatoes

snacks
strawberry-filled cereal bar
apple

Hi, welcome to the forum. Sounds like your off to a good start. Looks like you've got lots of great things to motivate you as well. A new house with a pool sounds great. Starting a family is also very exciting, you are wise to work on your weight now before hand as pregnacy is so much easier when you have less weight on you. Trust me I did it the hard way. Wish you the best of luck and I am sure you will do well.

I know how hard it is to motivate yourself to exercise. I've been there. Especially when you try to go to a gym and are surrounded by skinny, fit people. I'm not sure when you'll be moving into your new house, but swimming is great exercise! The only thing I can say from experience is that I used to have to fight with myself to get up and go exercise, but now I actually enjoy it. It's become such a routine that I actually miss it when I can't get to the gym. It took me a couple of weeks to reach that point, but I'm there and I feel so much healthier already. There's no easy way to motivate yourself, but everyone is here to cheer you on. Good luck!

I hate exercise too. But I had to do some sort of exercise, or I knew I wouldnt stick to this weight loss thing very long. I ended up buying a treadmill. I use it almost everyday. I have it in front of a tv upstairs so I can at least watch something while I walk. It works for me.

I agree that trying to tackle weight before getting pregnant is a really good thing. As far as motivation to exercise, exercising and building up your fitness level really well help with labor (when you do decided to start your family).

Welcome to the forum!! I know you will find tons of support and motivation from all the great people here! :) Good luck with your weight loss goals!!
