am i weak? if so, any advice?

i am a 17 year old guy who plays hockey. i am quite skinny but rather fast compared to my team mates. i play on the wing for my team. my division consists of players aged from 14-19. while i manage to sprint past opponents, i often get pushed off the ball easily, even by 14 year old defenders. My coach tells me i am too weak for a boy my age and that i have to strengthen up. He made our whole team do chin ups and pushups for training and i was one of the few who could not do a single chin up and only managed about 9 proper pushups. i am about 5'9" and 115lbs, and my arms are very very thin.

am i really very weak? and wat should i do?

ummm eat more and workout?

Weak is a matter of opinion but probably yeah.

What I would reccommend is for you to decide what you want for your muscles to do. If you want to be strong to play hocky than ask your coach

Remember though that that program is different than if you want to be Sexier, bigger, able to lift huge weights, a badass, a football player, a basketball player, a compettitve bodybuilder.....

Decide what you want exactly and ask the question again with your goal in mind.

ok thanks..i need to strengthen up for my fitness test which requires me to do at least 7 pullups and 50 pushups to pass. Sadly i can do 0 pullups and 9 pushups now

With pull-ups and push-ups you'll be asking for an injury if you aren't gonna do any rows. Also, emphasize form!

Pull ups as well as push ups are require you to do them. there is no two ways about it.
Drop and do push ups or jump and do pull ups for 1 solid minute. They will get harder quickly but the ones at the end are the only ones that really stem growth so don't crap out on yourself. Because you are starting low you may want to start off by doing thirty seconds.

The great thing about this is that you can do it between commercial breaks which are usually 3 minutes long or when you wake up or whatever. You will always have thirty seconds to a minute you can spare. you do not even need to to change clothes, shower or take caffeine. If the set gets hard just look at your wristwatch and tell your self you have x seconds left and so it is not a problem

Big strenghth gains come from weight training where you lift the most you possible can 6-15 times in all the different ways. When you start lifting let us all know and we can give you further guidance on that.

And do not be discouraged. I too was stuck on 10 push ups for a lot of years. If it is important to you and you take it seriously you will grow and accomplish great things. Ten years from now you could become the biggest mother you know

I concour. For overall strength, do a lot of pushups, chin ups, squats, and core work, which is probably the most important thing. If you're going to work with weights, do a lot of compound exercises like power cleaning...you don't need that much arm strength unless you want it for that slapshot or whatever.

That, with rows and deadlifts mixed in, and I couldn't agree more!

pple tell me that since im so skinny, i should be able to do alot of pullups since im lighter n when they find out i cant do any and can barely hang onto the bar for more than 15 seconds, they tell me im very weak. just wanted to noe whether they are being honest. m i really weak?

i do tink i am bcos i got into a fight which was my fault with a 13 year old kid not too long ago. he wasnt exactly big, but he was strong and he totally trashed me really bad, even leaving me really dazed on the ground after that. wat do u pple tink?

I think you should have started working out about a week ago. Your body is clearly behind where it is supposed to be. Now, you must decide what you want for your body and work hard to become strong.

Just being someone who cares about his strength you should already be working hard to build yourself. The fact that you are asking the same question again tells me that you are looking for reasons not to.

Your freinds are correct in that you should be able to do lots of push ups an pull ups and when you start to get in shape they will become easy very quickly- But you need to get started. Whe you decide what you want, write again about how to acheive it and plenty of people will give you good information

You have identified the problem. Get to work on the solution

Oh ****, I just read your first post again and I kept thinking you were like 14. Yeah dude, what Ninjaface said. Got beat up by a kid who hasn't even gotten into high school yet? Can't do 15 push ups? Can't even hold yourself on a bar for 15 sec? Any one of those is reason enough to start busting your ass...It's time to stop asking questions you know the answers to and time to get to work.
