Hey guys let me start of by first saying that i am 20 years old. Ive not really been a healthy eater my life. Not a lot of sweets just a lot of eating before i sleep and not necessarily eating the things i need to. I used to drink A LOT of soda. 2010 i quit and went to diet soda. Now so far i have not drank any soda at all. Its all been juice and water. Well right now i am weighing right at 230lbs. I got a decent amount of muscle. I got a big stomach though and upper chest. Im trying to lose weight. Its really hard though. Two weeks ago i joined a gym. Ive been doing about 1 hour of fast walking on the treadmill on somewhat of an elevation. Then ill go and work my upper body for about 30 mins and a little bit of my legs. Then ill go back to the Treadmill. The one that has pedals and they move in circular motions with the handles that move back and fourth. I do that for about 30 more mins on the hardest setting. So thats about the workout im doing 5 times a week. Its about 2 hours long all together when im done. Ive been eating nothing but pasta, oatmeal, and fruit. About a total of 1400 Cals a day. Can anyone help me with what i am doing. Thanks a lot guys.

have you been losing weight doing this? Are you tracking you calories accurately? Are you getting any protein in your diet?

Are you losing weight? One thing is that it seems like you're not getting much protein (just based off of what you said, oatmeal and pasta). Protein is important if you want to lose fat instead of muscle, although you don't need to drink raw egg whites or anything Rocky like ;) Also doesn't sound like you're getting much in the way of veggies. Fruit is good, but veggies are too!

I'd also suggest diet soda over fruit juice! Fruit juice tends to be about as bad as regular soda, and it's way easy to add extra calories.

You didn't say if you're actually losing any weight with what you're doing. If you are losing weight, just keep on with what you're doing. If you're not, you probably need to keep track of your calories as accurately as possible to make sure you're not underestimating. Or overestimating. Oddly, if you're working out really hard and really cutting back the calories you may be eating too little! But the only way to know for sure is to record what and how much you're eating every day to check.
