Am I going too fast?

Hi.
I started losing weight in January, and so far I've lost 14 kilos (30 lbs). Of those 14, I've lost 6 and 1/2 (14 lbs) in a month. I read that losing 2 pounds a week is the healthiest way to lose weight. So, do you think I'm going too fast? Do you think the pounds will come back more easily?
My starting weight was 108 kg (238 lbs), I'm 19 years old, male, 172 cm tall (5' 6''). I eat ~1700 calories a day and walk at a fast pace 2 hours every day.

I'm no expert - this is just my opinion

2lbs a week, from what i've read is an estimate, 2lbs a week for someone who weighed 120lbs would be a lot to lose, 2 lbs a week for someone over 250 isn't as dramatic... the estimate I've seen is 1 percent of your body weight a week and no worries.

In addition to the walking, which 2 hours a day might be a lot, you probably want to include some strength training - your calories might be a bit low but it's not hard to bump them up little by little.

Thanks for the advice!
2 hours of walking is too much? I usually do two 70-minute walks. My legs don't complain and it works just fine. I've kind of abandoned strength exercise, but I think it's time to take it more seriously now that I can do a few push-ups.

Some argue that losing two pounds a week is the healthiest way. More than that you risk losing muscle mass.

And Safe Sex is correct that you should do some strength training. You'll reduce the chance of losing muscle mass.

Congrats on losing that much weight! :D

The "2 lbs per week" recommendation depends completely upon current weight and length of diet.

Interesting. How about for a 21 year old male coming down from 245, currently at 226 and aiming for 185?

Hard to say. It depends on body fat levels really. The fatter you are, the more weight you can lose, having it consist primarily of fat, and not muscle.

For instance, a 350 lb woman is going to be able to eat in a deep deficit losing 5+ lbs per week.

A 150 lb woman, not so much. Eating in a deep deficit would lead to muscle loss coupled with the fat loss, which is never good.

Understood. Thank you.
