Sport Am I eating right?

Sport Fitness
Okay i'm pretty sure my diet is okay but i just want to double check. i don't like to eat the same food, over and over but i do maintain what i think is a pretty good diet; i'll let u guys be the judge of that.

i do have my eggs whites and toast, somtimes oakmeal in the morning, followed by a fruit or equivalent to an hour or 2 after, for lunch i'll have a quesadilla or somthing ( which i make with with 0% fat cheese lettus, tomato, and boiled chicken, what ever i make i usually make with fat free or low fat/carb stuff) then depending on when i work out, have a protein shake 45mins before, i come after about say roughly 2hour walking including , 10-15mins, i drink another protein shake after. then about an hour later i get ready for dinner which can consist of broccoli, spinach, chicken, steak, a lil rice or bread , not to mention green tea in the morning and at night.

i try and keep thie eating routine but i do have some days where i do cheat, whether its a friday night at a bar or at my friend shouse where i can't resist somthing but thats only once a week, that is if i do cheat.

on my days off from the gym, which i try to push only 1 or 2 days, i try and eat less calories because well i don't burn as much with the gym. what do you guys think? please let out any comments, or question that i can improve upon. thanks

Are you eating right...for what? It totally depends on what your goals are

I would recommend mixing it up. Staying on the exact same routine day in and day out isn't as good for your metabolism as switching it up from time to time. Try some different breakfast and lunch options.

Otherwise, very healthy eating!

to loose fat not weight, u know trim down, i'm 5 7'" and 165lb not fat at all but do a lil love handles and wouldn't mind losing a couple of pounds of fat.

i trya nd keep my calories up because i tend to not eat as many calories a day as i should, but i do try and stay away from saturated fat and a big amount of carbs not totally but if i have a choice of fat free or low fat and regular i choose the first two

have any other ideas to incorporate into the diet?

You might want to look at the fat/carb content of your protein. Ideally, you want your protein to be at least 80% protein. So look at the grams of protein on the nutrition label, and divide by the total serving size.

So if it contains 30 grams of protein, and a serving size is 36 grams:

30 / 40 = .83

which is 83%.

Now you may find that even though there's little fat or carbs, that the numbers just don't mesh up when you look at the protein content vs. serving size. E.g.,

Serving Size: 40g
Fat: 0g
Sugars: 1g
Protein: 25g

32 / 40 = .625

which is 62.5% protein content. Something's fishy.

So next time you go shopping for a protein drink, make sure the ratio is up there.

NOW - if yours has a high fat and sugar content, it's likely that it's not so much a protein drink as a full-on meal replacement (MRP) - in which case you might not want to have one before AND after your workout.

good to know thanks

2 questions
1) if one were to eat, how many hour should on eat before he goes for a good night sleep?

2)and how bad would carbs be to eat for dinner?

Common thought on the subject is: You want to avoid eating within 3 hrs before bedtime, since normally these calories will be stored as fat because your body isn't doing enough activity during sleep to utilize them.

Also, sure, why not eat carbs with dinner? I have everythings (carbs, fats, protein) with every meal. A balanced diet is key.

yeah i heard 3hours before but the only thing is there are times where i wake up wanting somthing sweet or somthing, midnight muchies. i go for some fat free ice cream, or grapes or guess my body is wanting carbs or somthign sweet. only thing is when i eat, which is around 3 or 4am, i go back to sleep which is i think the major flaw in my diet.

Good article, Dukes. When people ask me what to do for overnight protein, I usually tell them "glass of milk"
