Weight-Loss Am I doing this right?

So, I've always been having two meals a day, and one snack at night for as long as I can remember. I would never have breakfast because I always sleep through it. My calories intake had always been very high because I never ate anything healthy. (exmaple: Chipotle for lunch and steak and fries for dinner, oreos at night) My calorie intake every day could have gone between 900 calories to 2500 calories... it always depended on the day.

Last week I just abruptly stopped the bad dieting. But I'm so used to having two meals a day...

I've been having bran cereal with bananas at 12pm (I wake up around 11... I've always had horrible sleeping habits), and then chicken salad with vinegrette dressing for dinner around 7pm when I get home from work, and a few apples or an orange in between or even after.

This would mean I'm only eating about 600-700 calories a day. Does this mean I won't lose weight because my body might store all the food instead of burning it? I have lost 2 pounds, but I believe it's just water weight, and my weight has been the same the past two days and I know I've burned way more than the amount I took in... maybe I shouldn't look at the scale everyday?

I just don't how to eat 5 meals a day without going over 1100 calories, which I was trying to make my limit.

How does this plan sound:
-2-3 scrambled eggs around 10am
-1 cup Kashi cereal w/ milk at noon
-Apple w/ string cheese at work (between 2 and 6)
-Chicken salad w/ vinegrette at 7pm
-Some other snack around 9pm... any suggestions?

What is your weight and height? You should check to see how many calories you need per day, not what you think would be good.

People on here say for a good weight loss number, times your weight by ten and eat that many calories.

The more you weigh, the less you have to worry about the game.

You are already not that heavy, so it will be really difficult for you to lose weight maintaining that life style. I am assuming you go to sleep late since you wake up late (if this is a bad assumption, let me know).

What do you do in the night? Perhaps you can do a late night work out (perhaps 9:00-10:00pm...I love working out at night) and have one your meals/snacks late at night (some people may be against this).

That is all the advice I have for now.

I never heard of this method. And frankly, I do not that fond of it. I weigh roughly 240 (round up for math :p). I should consume 2400 calories for weight loss?

The route I would take is to use a BMR (basal metabolic rate, basically the amount of calories you would burn in a 24 hour period just lying in a bed all day) calculator. Some can be found on various websites, but remember, the more variables you input, the more accurate the BMR will be. There are various posts (posted by steve, others :p) that explains this. I will look for it and post it.

edit: I found the article that explains it beautifully. The thread is located on the "On Topic" section of the site. http://weight-loss.fitness.com/topic/9468-starvation-calories-adaptations.html

Well, I am 5'1" and right now I weigh about 116-118 depending on the time of day.

I did calculate how many calories I burn a day just with my daily activities, including sleeping etc. and that's 1300 calories without even working out...

But how many calories I need? I'm not sure how to figure that out?
