Am I doing alright?

Hi I'm 18 years old 5'11" about 170 lbs...training to be a pararescuer in the Air Force and I'm leaving in December.

Right now I run every other day and lift on days inbetween and if I'm feeling good I run on lift days too while occasionally fitting in some swimming.

Today though I ran 7 miles in 59 minutes

Am I doing alright here?

I'm just wondering how many miles a good distance runner can get in an hour. I can swim a 500 in about 6 minutes, so I'm just trying to get my running and lifting up to par too

Thanks

Dustin

That is a good pace < 8:30 per mile... it is all relative... I ran a 5 k recently and the top guys ran 19:xx and would run 7 at about a 6:3x -6:4x pace... Me however ran a bit slower... and would be happy with that pace for 7 miles... good job!

Just keep in mind you don't have to run at your max every time. Hard run followed by easy run... repeat... check out this to get a good idea of running pace...

I don't know what the Air Forces requirements are, but the Marine Corps uses 3 miles in 18 minutes at their best score, so their elite groups are required to meet that. I think anything less than 3 miles in 21 minutes is considered acceptable for the general Marine.

Cool thanks for the replies

In high school I used to do a 5k (3.1 miles) in usually around 20 min. And that's when I had no work ethic or motivation at all lol. So I think I could do a bit better now. For my long 7 milers I don't even really try to go that fast, I just try to keep a decent ongoing pace on flats and up and down hills. I think I'll try to run a fast 3 miler tomorrow because today I'm going to work upper body in the gym

Thanks

Dustin

lol no not really a 6-pack, it'll give you a really flat, lean stomach but doesn't build much muscle. I do crunches before I go out though, which helps avoid cramping, stitches etc...

alright cool man thanks
