Sport Am I Dehydrating myself?

Sport Fitness
I am female,5 foot 5, 123 lbs, weight train hard 5 days a week, run 4-5 days a week which is a really intense run for me each time. I really push myself..
I've gained quite a bit of muscle by weight training, eat good 95% of the time, loads of protein, good complex carbs and such,, but I do have one downfall, but i want to know if it makes THAT much of a difference in my training and body. I have a stubborn little fatty area in my stomach and hips. Would water really help me lose fat or speed up my metabolism?

Instead of water, here is my daily liquid intake..

4:20 am before running, I drink 2 big cups of black coffee (well the coffee pot goes up to the 6 cup mark and i drink all that)

then i drink a pepsi one at noon

At 3 I drink another pepsi one, then at dinner I may drink a diet sprite.
This is all i drink all day besides I may get water from a couple servings of fruit
and such.

Would you say I am dehydrated or that it would affect my training negatively? I ask because it's just a hard thing for me to do.. drink water.. I just dont like it..,,not only that but i can sit and eat a meal and not drink anything and it doesnt phase me. I tend to feel bloated when i drink too.

Any advice would be appreciated.

i dont know if you are dehydrated, but i do know its very hard to drink too much water.. i dont know about pepsi, i would rather drink water. i dont know how much each day is recomended, but drinking lots cant hurt, unless you drink like 6 liter in row, in which case it could be fatal.

Water is a really important part to your training. Weight loss, muscle gains, flexibility...whatever you are going for you need to get a proper amount of water into your system. It is one of the most neglected areas of training and funny enough one of the most important. You need at least AT LEAST 8 glasses a day. I personally take in 1-2 gallons a day and feel great from it. So find a way to force it down, you will find in time you will crave it when thirsty and slowly wont really desire much else.

Agreed! It's almost impossible to overdose on water, though it's not unheard of in marathoners who load up too much before a race.

I'm not an expert but if you're working out as much as you say and only get water from foods coffee and sodas you may be hurting yourself in the long run...how do you feel? Sluggish, tired, drained, headaches, irritable? I get all of the above when I don't drink plenty of water...

I drink around a gallon a daily. 3 liters while at my desk working and another liter while and after working out. Not to mention what I get from foods...

Wow, I can't believe you are able to do all that you do on so little liquid! One of my many weaknesses (that I'm trying to break) is my cup of joe in the morning, but I always drink water afterwards because I know it didn't really hydrate me. How you manage to drink coffee and then run is beyond me! Doesn't Pepsi one have some sugar and calories in it? Or is it like one calorie? Sorry, I'm not a big fan of diet sodas so I don't know much about them. I was just thinking that maybe if it had some sugar in it that it may be what is stopping you from losing the fat you are talking about.

Wow, I'm surprised you aren't complaining of fatigue or some other syptoms of dehydration. Your body can't be properly hydrated. Since you exercise so vigorously I think you should be drinking a gallon a day. Your body would function SO MUCH better if you started drinking water. And I do think it would make a difference for fat loss.

Drinking a lot of water is a hard habit to get in to. Start with just a couple cups of ice water. Increase by a cup here or there. Eventually it will become a habit and you'll drag a water bottle everywhere with you.

Hope that helps!

What kind of work do you do Luvmydane? I have a desk job and it's so easy for me to drink water. I just keep the bottle on my desk 24/7. I fill it up in the morning, then at lunch and I drink thoughout the day, that may help?

you guys are right.. told my husband we are going to replace all carbonated beverages with water as soon as we run out of our last pepsi ones! should only be a day or two!

Solutions

Water is bland and its tough to drink a lot of it especially when you're not thirsty. However, there are solutions.

Most markets carry sugar free flavoring powder such as Crystal Light "Sunrise On The Go". You simply mix it with water and it gives you some flavoring in your water and it helps a lot. Give it a try and see how it goes. Either way, it is much better than the other junk you are drinking.

Good for you Luvmydane! :) I drink sodas on my cheat day (usually Saturday or Sunday) and there are days when I just HAVE to have a coke but usually not during the week...you can do it!

Great advice above. Start drinking 8-12 ounces at each meal. That'll give you between 48 and 72 ounces right there. The cup of ice thing is great! You'll find in time that you start craving water and don't feel "right" without it.

Thats so true. To begin with, I had to force myself to drink lots of water, it was a chore. Now, it is habit and, as Lynn says, I don't feel 'right' if I don't have a glass of water to hand. Plus, I get even more excercise taking all those extra trips to the little boys room :)
